Use iCloud+ Custom Email Domain with Outlook for Windows

Hi,

I´ve set up an iCloud+ Custom Email Domain with Apple and I wanted to use the custom domain also on the Outlook App for Windows, where my @icloud.com email address is also set up. The customer email domain works at icloud.com and also via the mail app for apple, I can send and receive mails from and to the domain. After the initial set up via the settings from icloud it got automatically added. The domain works like an "alias" for the @icloud.com email. The incoming mails are received/ and the outgoing emails are in the send folded by icloud.com. I tried to add the email as an additional mail account on Outlook, it did not establish a connection to the server. I tried to change the icloud account information via Outlook; selected iCloud account, then clicked on account settings, then manage profile, and the email account; I tried to change the email to the custom domain there, but received the same issue. Do you have any suggestions how to use the customer iCloud Email Domain on the Outlook App, so I can sent and receive mails from that domain?

    Hello!

    Solution from @Stefan works in Mail app, but no in the new Outlook client.

    Tested in Windows 11.

    iCloud uses two types of passwords, one is to access your acccount directly from their web site at icloud.com. However, to access your emails using other applications such as Outlook, you need to create specific passwords, not only for the application itself, but also for each device you want to use. For example if you want to access your iCloud emails such as the original iCloud email "myname(at)icloud.com", or your "custom email" associated with iCloud "myname(at)mydomain.com", and you want to use both a desktop and a laptop, you need to create specific password for each device and for each account: app-specific passwords (https://support.apple.com/HT204397).

    The password is not the problem, I can connect to the iCloud account without any issues.

    But, as I have a personal domain (@lastname.be), so no @iCloud.com or @me.com email adres, it is impossible to set up Outlook to use those emailadresses to send mails.

    The personal domain is linked to iCloud ( Use custom Domain with iCloud Mail so I don't have to pass through my isp anymore.

    As long as this is not resolved, I can't use Outlook as my default mail/calendar/...) app.

    Paco is correct, you will need to set up an application specific password (generated by Apple) just for Outlook on your computer. Without this, Outlook cannot be set up to log into the iCloud email account. It's very different from the iCloud logon.

    An iCloud email account is necessary to receive external domain email. All mail for this iCloud email address as well as the external domain email addresses ends up in this inbox on iCloud. It's easy to set up separate inboxes in Outlook for the external domain addresses or they can all be left in the iCloud email account which will need to be set up in Outlook. Rules can be set in iCloud email server that move email as it comes in to these inboxes, which will determine where the external domain emails show up in Outlook on the computer. Once Outlook is connected to iCloud email, inboxes added in Outlook are visible in iCloud email server.

    Email can be sent from the external domain addresses by using an alias in Outlook. In Mac Mail, the correct email address is automatically determined by the inbox being used. In Outlook, it's necessary to change the sender address manually or the default will be the host iCloud account email address.

    Apple ID's are also email addresses, so you already have an iCloud email account. Have you checked this inbox to see if your external domain emails arrive there? If not, then there is a problem with the external domain DNS setup.

    This is where I had a problem - the DNS code provided by Apple to redirect external domain emails to iCloud had several characters that were ambiguous with my screen font. When I switched to Courier (using a text editor) and entered the correct data, the problem was resolved.

    Works great and it's covered by the iCloud subscription.

    How do you set up the alias? I cant find it in the new Outlook.
