Use iCloud+ Custom Email Domain with Outlook for Windows

Hi,

I´ve set up an iCloud+ Custom Email Domain with Apple and I wanted to use the custom domain also on the Outlook App for Windows, where my @icloud.com email address is also set up. The customer email domain works at icloud.com and also via the mail app for apple, I can send and receive mails from and to the domain. After the initial set up via the settings from icloud it got automatically added. The domain works like an "alias" for the @icloud.com email. The incoming mails are received/ and the outgoing emails are in the send folded by icloud.com. I tried to add the email as an additional mail account on Outlook, it did not establish a connection to the server. I tried to change the icloud account information via Outlook; selected iCloud account, then clicked on account settings, then manage profile, and the email account; I tried to change the email to the custom domain there, but received the same issue. Do you have any suggestions how to use the customer iCloud Email Domain on the Outlook App, so I can sent and receive mails from that domain?

    The expected strategy that should work is using (IMAP) settings:

    • Incoming
    • Outgoing server:
      • smtp.mail.me.com
      • Port: 587
      • Username: Your custom domain Apple ID email address
      • Password: Use the app-specific password that you generated when you set up the incoming mail server.

    However, somehow this won't let you establish connection, and apparently with iCloud+ Custom Email Domain according to this thread "you should use your iCloud email address here to authenticate, not your custom domain address". As well as StefanKitanovski advised, you should change the the "email address" field with the custom domain from iCloud only after your set up the account with the original iCloud email Address. However, for Mac users this is only possible in the old Outlook App. As soon as you use the 'New Outlook', the account settings don't let you change it.

    Where can we request Microsoft to port this feature which existed in the old Mac Outlook App to the new one??

    As a mac user of the new outlook app I want to be able to change the email address field in the settings, such that I can use an alias email address like I could in the old app (in this particular case my iCloud Custom Domain address)

    sadly true... on a Mac Outlook I have no option

    I might call Apple and Ask.. they might have an answer

    Hi Ben,

    Thank you for your support, because the domain is used as an alias for icloud that steps do not resolve the issue. I experimented a bit, I found the solution (if anyone else on the web is searching for it):

    1. in Outlook go to Settings/Accounts, choose the icloud account, and then click account settings
    2. choose in account settings the option "manage profile", and then "email account"
    3. select the icloud account, and click on change/edit
    4. in the "email address" field enter the email with the custom domain from icloud; in the field "username" leave your standard icloud email address; and generate from appleid.apple.com a new app-specific password.

    After clicking next, and after Outlook verifies the server data, Outlook uses the custom domain to send and receive mails. Also all mails sent to the standard icloud email address are also received.

    There is no option on a Mac to get to the option "manage profile".

    Hi! thank you very much for the tip! that works great. I tried the same on my iphone with outlook. unfortunately that doesn't work. does anyone happen to know what settings I have to take here?
