Use iCloud+ Custom Email Domain with Outlook for Windows

Hi,

I´ve set up an iCloud+ Custom Email Domain with Apple and I wanted to use the custom domain also on the Outlook App for Windows, where my @icloud.com email address is also set up. The customer email domain works at icloud.com and also via the mail app for apple, I can send and receive mails from and to the domain. After the initial set up via the settings from icloud it got automatically added. The domain works like an "alias" for the @icloud.com email. The incoming mails are received/ and the outgoing emails are in the send folded by icloud.com. I tried to add the email as an additional mail account on Outlook, it did not establish a connection to the server. I tried to change the icloud account information via Outlook; selected iCloud account, then clicked on account settings, then manage profile, and the email account; I tried to change the email to the custom domain there, but received the same issue. Do you have any suggestions how to use the customer iCloud Email Domain on the Outlook App, so I can sent and receive mails from that domain?

So, it just worked. I don't know if changing the registry value above made it work, of if MS improved outlook. But I made the registry change and then just added my @icloud.com account (I did had to create an app-specific password with apple as expected). I chose "advanced options" and then "Let me setup manually" and it added no problem. So I essentially have two inboxes that are the same and I can send emails from each by changing the FROM dropdown.

Incase someone suggests just typing in a "from" address, this technically works, but it's only changing the reply-to address So an email received like this would show it's from whatever address the email account was chosen, but if the user clicks reply, it changes to the address you typed in the from field. So this is kinda wonky - especially if you're sending an email to something automated and it's looking for your actual email address, not the reply-to address.

    Hope this help

Well, first of all, that is not the entire point of this thread. The OP simply wanted to get outlook to work with his custom domain without the default method which blows.

As far as the (off topic) question of getting both of them in outlook - I can experiment a bit, but my suspicion is that if I rename the other iCloud.com address in the registry, it will reflect in outlook. Then outlook might let me add my iCloud account without complaining that it’s already there.

I must be missing something though, because if someone sends me an email to my @icloud.com address, it goes to the same inbox as my custom domain. So help me understand- why is this needed?

It is needed when you need to reply to emails from both the iCloud email address and the custom domain alias.

You can't, that's the whole point of this thread. It's just that some people don't get it because they might not use the iCloud email address in the first place.

Well, this appears to change the iCloud email address to the custom domain. But what if you want to keep using your apple email address and IN ADDITION use your custom domain(s)? So, the question is: how can I ADD another "inbox" that uses the custom domain?
