Outlook 2019 not working with Gmail

UPDATE - HAD TO DELETE AND RE-ADD AS IMAP

I received notifications that Gmail may no longer work with Outlook. However, the communication noted that Gmail will work with Outlook 2019 which I am using. Starting today, by Gmail will not work with outlook. I receive an error

Task '******@gmail.com - Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC92) : 'Your email server rejected your login. Verify your user name and password for this account in Account Settings. The server responded: -ERR [AUTH] Username and password not accepted."

Is there an additional setting to make this work in Outlook 2019?

I was able to get the POP mail to work again

Here is the workaround Google Support sent me.

We found a workaround for your Outlook issue. You may try tosign in with app passwords

Create & use App Passwords

If you use 2-Step-Verification and get a "password incorrect" error when you sign in, you can try to use an App Password.

  1. Go to your Google Account.
  2. Select Security.
  3. Under "Signing in to Google," select App Passwords. You may need to sign in. If you don’t have this option, it might be because:
    1. 2-Step Verification is not set up for your account.
    2. 2-Step Verification is only set up for security keys.
    3. Your account is through work, school, or other organization.
    4. You turned on Advanced Protection.
  4. At the bottom, choose Select app and choose the app you using and then Select device and choose the device you’re using and then Generate.
  5. Follow the instructions to enter the App Password. The App Password is the 16-character code in the yellow bar on your device.
  6. Tap Done.

Tip: Most of the time, you’ll only have to enter an App Password once per app or device, so don’t worry about memorizing it.

Once you go through that you can use the Generated Password for your POP account

    My Outlook 2019 has always been configured POP/SMTP and the SMTP setting is Port 465 with Encryption method SSL/TLS. Looking on the Gmai9l help screens they seem to be saying to use Port 587. I tried it, still no joy. Bottom line is Gmail stopped working last night (june 2) for possibly millions of people who use Outlook 2019 and variants. If I can't use Gmail with my Outlook client I simply won't use Gmail, simple. Maybe that's someone's plan?

    Same as you but: Problem solved (for now).

    As an IT guy \ Developer with 30 years exp. I'm shocked at the stupidity of Google brazen action.

    Now to my solution:

    1. Enable forwarding (in gmail) to my other email address outside of gmail.
    2. Confirmed forwarding on other email address outside gmail.
    3. Pasted the code inside forwarding section of gmail.
    4. Click Save on bottom of screen in forwarding page inside gmail.
    5. Test forwarding

    It was less than 5 minutes before my outlook 2019 began back to S/R emails as usual.

    Not sure how long this will work. I guess your milage may vary.

    Finally, I will setup an auto responder to advise senders of my new email. I wanted to divorce Google for a while now. This was the last straw for me. BTW, been using Bing for last couple of years and am happy, google is my fallback.

    I got caught by this today as well. I re-created my Gmail account in Outlook before seeing this thread. Now I am stuck with IMAP and my Gmail is appearing in a separate folder in Outlook.

    Is there a way to restore this to the way it was before 6/2/22?

    I did the same thing you just did. Not I lost all of my rules and folders that moved things around nicely. Frustrating.

    I have no doubt this is all related to Google's stated intention of involuntarily changing everyone's settings if they had the "less secure apps allowed" feature turn on. I will not be coerced into using IMAP, it's an unworkable for me due to my configuration and size and complexity of my pst file in Outlook. Like you I'm thinking this could be the end of my Gmail account, there are other free email providers that support POP3/SMTP, Microsoft/Bing among them. Will Google back down? Maybe, but probably only temporarily. In fact, while I was typing this my Outlook 2019 client simply started working again with Gmail, I had tried none of the fixes suggested in this thread. Clearly Google is getting some push back and reacting accordingly--or they have a problem....
