UPDATE - HAD TO DELETE AND RE-ADD AS IMAP

I received notifications that Gmail may no longer work with Outlook. However, the communication noted that Gmail will work with Outlook 2019 which I am using. Starting today, by Gmail will not work with outlook. I receive an error

Task '******@gmail.com - Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC92) : 'Your email server rejected your login. Verify your user name and password for this account in Account Settings. The server responded: -ERR [AUTH] Username and password not accepted."

Is there an additional setting to make this work in Outlook 2019?

I was able to get the POP mail to work again

Here is the workaround Google Support sent me.

We found a workaround for your Outlook issue. You may try tosign in with app passwords

Create & use App Passwords

If you use 2-Step-Verification and get a "password incorrect" error when you sign in, you can try to use an App Password.

  1. Go to your Google Account.
  2. Select Security.
  3. Under "Signing in to Google," select App Passwords. You may need to sign in. If you don’t have this option, it might be because:
    1. 2-Step Verification is not set up for your account.
    2. 2-Step Verification is only set up for security keys.
    3. Your account is through work, school, or other organization.
    4. You turned on Advanced Protection.
  4. At the bottom, choose Select app and choose the app you using and then Select device and choose the device you’re using and then Generate.
  5. Follow the instructions to enter the App Password. The App Password is the 16-character code in the yellow bar on your device.
  6. Tap Done.

Tip: Most of the time, you’ll only have to enter an App Password once per app or device, so don’t worry about memorizing it.

Once you go through that you can use the Generated Password for your POP account

Hope this helps you all

Finally got it working. Need to sign into each Gmail acct and turn on 2 Step for each and add unique new password for each account. Wow, my next step is to move everything to Proton mail. Already don't use Google for search but rather Duck Duck Go.

Following the instructions here resolved the problem on both my and my wife's accounts, but it still doesn't track with the instructions Google previously sent out regarding which versions of Outlook would continue to work.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to wait until 6/8/22 to see if Google does the right thing and fix this right. If not, then I'll try the convoluted fix. I've heard that Outlook 2021 users have also experience the problem.

Good to hear that the work-around works. But I believe Google has done its users a disservice. All along, they said that 2019 Outlook and new would not be affected. That is a breach of Customer Service confidence.

    Cheers all!

    I agree with ColleenLOBrien,

STEP 1: Set up 2-step verification ( I used a mobile phone and had them send me a text message with the verification code)
STEP 2: Then get the App Password from Google under "Sign in with Google"

STEP 3: Repair the particular account in Outlook 2019 ( File> Account Settings > Account Settings; Select the account and then hit Repair)
STEP 4: Enter App password. If it chokes; reverse steps 3 and 4.

IT SIMPLY WILL NOT WORK WITHOUT THE REPAIR STEP!!!
And, yes, each account needs its own app password.

I struggled all day with this and did not do any actual work. Having modified my server settings on the web-version of Gmail, I suddenly got hit with 512 e-mails from history when the access started working. That was my mistake. This whole mess, however, is Google's mistake for lying to decent people about Outlook 2019 being fine after 30 May. It clearly is not and they have caused me misery that I will not forget easily. I specifically bought my wife Outlook 2019 to AVOID THIS, fer cryin' out loud!!!

My mobile phone running Gmail as an app was OK with all three my Google accounts, but my tablet and desktop, running a Samsung e-mail client and Outlook 2019 respectively, both refused to work on two of the Google accounts. Both those accounts , however, worked just fine on the Gmail app on the mobile phone (!!?). The third Google account was just fine on all three machines. It turns out that the particular account ( that third one) ALREADY had two-step verification and app passwords.

We wuz lied to, and we iz upset. I Lost a lot of earning hours today through this 100% avoidable problem.

Who knows? Will we wake up to the same issue tomorrow?
