Outlook saying I need more storage.

Hi there,

I've used a live.com account for years, and have always logged in through my browser to view emails. Today, the page loaded with a thin red notification at the top stating "From February 1, you'll need more storage to send or receive email."

Obviously, for a start, it's 16 days past February 1 which is weird, and my email is all working fine at the moment.

Clicking on "Manage Storage" opens a window, which states that my total used for my Microsoft Storage (things backed up from a laptop I hardly use, didn't even realise that they were being backed up to be honest) is 7.8GB out of a 5GB limit. I tried unsyncing my desktop on said laptop, but all it's done is remove everything from that laptop, which is pretty frustrating as I just wanted to leave the data on there and just free up some space on the Microsoft storage.

Anyway, I'm not overly bothered by that by now, as I'm more worried about my emails not working. Separate to the Microsoft storage, it lists my "Email Storage", which is 7.6GB out of 15GB. Does anyone know why I'm getting notified that I'm in danger of losing my email and pushed to buy a ridiculously expensive price plan?

    The exact same thing happening to me... been using for 30 plus years, suddenly super gross junk mail and some making it into my regular email even, and now the pink strip with red writing at the top saying as of Feb. 1, you need more storage. I clicked on the link to the storage and it said all the attachments were using up most of the storage.. so went back to 2001 and deleted most all my emails that had joke attachments, photos that someone sent me, so much on there I did not even remember about and certainly do not need... so deleted about 80 emails with huge attachments, such as college scholarship forms!... and yet it made NO difference.. it still shows the same amount of used up storage due to attachments. Also, saw on the news recently that Hotmail/microsoft was getting into trouble because users were saying spam was slipping through really, bad x rated... and yes, they were at fault, something wrong in their system and they are told to fix it!

    My deal is this: Instead of erasing all these nostalgic memories like most of you resort into doing for them. Then why the hell do this for them? Will they delete our old emails or not is the question I like an answer for. Not If I have to delete for them or buy their extortion plan. Will they go through with deleting peoples mails? That is the big question I have.

    I also removed all content on ONEDRIVE since its easy to put somewhere else though. Its still showing the same though. I first got the message today on the 5 March and it states from 1 Feb. What is going on here?

    What should we do?

    THIS IS THE WORSE THING TO HAPPEN.

    IVE BEEN USING THIS FOR 25YRS+ AND GOT USED TO THE VARIOUS UPDATES TO THE LOOK OF THE PAGE BUT THIS IS A DISASTER

    I DID WHAT I WAS TOLD AND NOW IVE LOST ALL MY FLAGGED AND PINNED EMAILS.

    ITS ALSO NOT THE SAME LOOK AS BEFORE AND SEEMS THAT MICROSOFT HASNT BOTHERED ASK THEIR USES BEFORE GOING AHEAD WITH THIS DOGS DINNER OF AN UPDATE.

    I DONT WANT ANY 'HELPFUL' ADVICE BECAUSE ITS NEITHER HELPFUL OR ACCURATE.

    I used AdBlocker to block all the individual elements in the pink ribbon. It disappeared – and reappeared at the bottom of my folder column. So I had AdBlocker block all those elements too. It all disappeared again. Wonder if any of it will come back? Maybe if they change the colour from pink to green?
