Outlook saying I need more storage.

Hi there,

I've used a live.com account for years, and have always logged in through my browser to view emails. Today, the page loaded with a thin red notification at the top stating "From February 1, you'll need more storage to send or receive email."

Obviously, for a start, it's 16 days past February 1 which is weird, and my email is all working fine at the moment.

Clicking on "Manage Storage" opens a window, which states that my total used for my Microsoft Storage (things backed up from a laptop I hardly use, didn't even realise that they were being backed up to be honest) is 7.8GB out of a 5GB limit. I tried unsyncing my desktop on said laptop, but all it's done is remove everything from that laptop, which is pretty frustrating as I just wanted to leave the data on there and just free up some space on the Microsoft storage.

Anyway, I'm not overly bothered by that by now, as I'm more worried about my emails not working. Separate to the Microsoft storage, it lists my "Email Storage", which is 7.6GB out of 15GB. Does anyone know why I'm getting notified that I'm in danger of losing my email and pushed to buy a ridiculously expensive price plan?

    I deleted everything in one drive, then signed out of one drive. This worked and then I could delete the red warning bar and also the other warning regarding storage. Still receiving lots of spam directly into my inbox especially in the evenings, why?

    I also deleted until storage went below 5gb. At this point, an X appeared on the right hand side of the red bar, which I could click to delete it. The storage message on the bottom left hand side could also now be deleted.

    Still don't understand why Microsoft seem to be including emails in the 5gb One Drive storage limit and not the 15gb supposedly allocated to email.

    I cleaned up my email, went under 5 G total, even their red inscription says "4.5 GB used of 5 GB (91%)", but "Get more storage" still there.

    I'm fascinated you say you've started receiving spam recently. Same here. "You're a winner at Tesco", "~Amazon", etc. I moved from almost no spam to about 15 of these emails every single day. Somebody has sold access to our accounts. Now this **** with storage limits. I'm going to move all my 2FA to another account ASAP. Hotmail / Outlook just isn't cutting it any more.

    Interesting... so somehow mass e-mails being sent through outlook.

    something in place that when more then 100 emails in a day requires second verification. Sending email limits that can be set by the user

    for outgoing mail

    phishing and scam email account that will do something about the junk emails or step by step ways to do it yourself.

    providing a service as well as protection which is part of the terms even on their end. Obviously a data breach and us as users will be compensated. Just admit something happened From Feb 2023, in outlook... don't try to Rodgers black hide it.

    Face up and give a solution.

    I too been reporting the scam emails... Watching my sent folder... what is going on then come see this tread and go on so not alone. This is a messed up outlook data possibly breach with this is my account.....dang it.

    open to a listed link or viable solutions, obviously deleting it to say there is less is actually not a thing. So even deleting it or so called clean up is doing nothing. List a better true way, option.

    unable to send to notify you that this is happening to any help desk... No phone or contact service provide for this problem.

    shall someone get find or retrieve an answer open to listening trying and to hear the results of his it worked.
