Outlook saying I need more storage.

Hi there,

I've used a live.com account for years, and have always logged in through my browser to view emails. Today, the page loaded with a thin red notification at the top stating "From February 1, you'll need more storage to send or receive email."

Obviously, for a start, it's 16 days past February 1 which is weird, and my email is all working fine at the moment.

Clicking on "Manage Storage" opens a window, which states that my total used for my Microsoft Storage (things backed up from a laptop I hardly use, didn't even realise that they were being backed up to be honest) is 7.8GB out of a 5GB limit. I tried unsyncing my desktop on said laptop, but all it's done is remove everything from that laptop, which is pretty frustrating as I just wanted to leave the data on there and just free up some space on the Microsoft storage.

Anyway, I'm not overly bothered by that by now, as I'm more worried about my emails not working. Separate to the Microsoft storage, it lists my "Email Storage", which is 7.6GB out of 15GB. Does anyone know why I'm getting notified that I'm in danger of losing my email and pushed to buy a ridiculously expensive price plan?

    Tamara Hines - are you deleting the right things? I.E: Anything in One Drive and emails WITH ATTACHMENTS. Emails without attachments won't reduce your usage. Also make sure 'Deleted Items' folder is empty. By doing this, I've reduced my usage to 4.2GB.

    They are saying we have 15GB of storage for email, but then they deduct the storage on the OneDrive (which they get users to use without being aware), so it comes out of the storage for the email which then shrinks to the 5GB

    They know people have been hotmail for years keeping important emails, and waited for the right moment to come out with this policy and force people to buy storage, knowing that people have years of emails that may be important for them, making it very complex to delete and clean the email, expecting to people to be desperate and just pay for storage.

    Furthermore, everyone is noticing hundreds of junk emails coming through to the hotmail, which now they let them through and make our email storage problem even bigger

    I have deleted everything and disabled one drive but still has that storage full message and still can't use it. I am not buying storage. I will just use my phone so send emails until they fix this issue. This is beyong frustration!

    I dont think they will fix the issue. They have no interest to fix it, because they want to force you buy storage. Actually they may have created this issue lately to force users to buy storage

    This message is now popping up all the time, I close it by clicking on the blue x, then it comes back again within a few minutes.

    And I've only got 5 GB of storage.
