Outlook saying I need more storage.

Hi there,

I've used a live.com account for years, and have always logged in through my browser to view emails. Today, the page loaded with a thin red notification at the top stating "From February 1, you'll need more storage to send or receive email."

Obviously, for a start, it's 16 days past February 1 which is weird, and my email is all working fine at the moment.

Clicking on "Manage Storage" opens a window, which states that my total used for my Microsoft Storage (things backed up from a laptop I hardly use, didn't even realise that they were being backed up to be honest) is 7.8GB out of a 5GB limit. I tried unsyncing my desktop on said laptop, but all it's done is remove everything from that laptop, which is pretty frustrating as I just wanted to leave the data on there and just free up some space on the Microsoft storage.

Anyway, I'm not overly bothered by that by now, as I'm more worried about my emails not working. Separate to the Microsoft storage, it lists my "Email Storage", which is 7.6GB out of 15GB. Does anyone know why I'm getting notified that I'm in danger of losing my email and pushed to buy a ridiculously expensive price plan?

    True deleting does not increase storage ..so 'manage storage' means nothing. What a mess a lot of us are in and important business emails left unanswered as can't reply!

    Hi, Folks. I did the following. After plenty of reading, I opened a Outlook account, It allows you to sync the Hotmail account. Problem has now gone away. What I found out was, in 2003 Hotmail was bought by Microsoft. Microsoft created Outlook, it stated then it would get rid of Hotmail, so this is how they are doing it. I was not charged to transfer data. My phone now allows me to send/answer emails. Crossed fingers to the next time. I did also pay £19.99 pa at the beginning to upload more data as it suggest to do, I now have requested a refund (as it was within the 14 days) and I received that refund this morning. Clearly Microsoft at playing games and should be reported for fraud as they are not only misrepresentation, but not uploading the space to which you paid for. Even when we have deleted files to try to free space, the space of 11GB that they say I had used still remained the same. Lets hope you can get your deleted files back such at att.

    How to Restore Deleted Emails in Hotmail from Deleted Items

    1. Open the Outlook, Sign in to the Hotmail email address.
    2. On the left side of the screen, Right-click "Deleted Items". Click "Recover Deleted Items".
    3. Choose the emails you want to restore. ...
    4. Click "Recover" and "OK".

    Open any folder (I found 'Sent' was the best one to delete from)

    Top right hand corner shows a 'filter' option. Click on that, a menu will appear.

    At the bottom, choose 'Sort'. This gives you various options; if you choose 'date' you can then choose 'oldest first'

    You can also choose 'size' which allows you to delete your largest e-mails.

    I've cleared OneDrive completely, deleted 3,500 emails from the Sent folder and am now just below the 5gb limit and everything is working normally, touch wood.

    I'm in UK, don't know if that makes any difference

    Why would we RECOVER old emails, if we are trying to FREE UP space? That makes absolutely no sense. I have nothing in any of my other folders, except my Inbox, which contains 62 emails (as of this post) and I have only 4.6 GB of 5.0 GB (93%). So, to me, it doesn't seem like an email issue, but a One Drive issue and I'm not deleting personal memories or important documents, which I absolutely need. Microsoft needs to be taken to court for this. They threw this on everyone, with no warning. My email is a live.com email address. They can't even keep their email domains straight. They have how many now?
