Outlook saying I need more storage.

Hi there,

I've used a live.com account for years, and have always logged in through my browser to view emails. Today, the page loaded with a thin red notification at the top stating "From February 1, you'll need more storage to send or receive email."

Obviously, for a start, it's 16 days past February 1 which is weird, and my email is all working fine at the moment.

Clicking on "Manage Storage" opens a window, which states that my total used for my Microsoft Storage (things backed up from a laptop I hardly use, didn't even realise that they were being backed up to be honest) is 7.8GB out of a 5GB limit. I tried unsyncing my desktop on said laptop, but all it's done is remove everything from that laptop, which is pretty frustrating as I just wanted to leave the data on there and just free up some space on the Microsoft storage.

Anyway, I'm not overly bothered by that by now, as I'm more worried about my emails not working. Separate to the Microsoft storage, it lists my "Email Storage", which is 7.6GB out of 15GB. Does anyone know why I'm getting notified that I'm in danger of losing my email and pushed to buy a ridiculously expensive price plan?

Thanks in advance

Like many here, I was also confused about this new storage limit scheme by Microsoft. I have a few email accounts for various uses and 3 of them have the over storage limit message. I just ignored them and emails were working as usual, until today when people who tried to email me got their emails bounced back with "mailbox full" errors. I had no choice but to start archiving older emails.

The sheer stupidity of all this is that I am under my 15 GB limit, but attachments apparently are being counted towards your 5 GB OneDrive limit. I don't even use OneDrive!

I've spent all weekend deleting thousands of messages, one by one. Deleting or emptying folders isn't an option except for the Deleted folder. And the "select all" ix gone. I was deleting the biggest things I could find, in addition to mass quantities. All of that, a couple gb worth, only reduced my used storage from 7.4 to 7.3 according to them. And I never had anything in Onedrive, but there is some stuff there anyway, maybe 10 files of kb size, under 1 mb total. Nowhere near 5 gb. Deceitful and disrespectful. If they want to charge for an account and storage they should just say so.

Precisely. If they want us to pay, just make a straightforward request with clear options instead of bullying, threats, and contradictory statements. And offer a simple extra storage plan for a fee, instead of forcing use of an app which will render email inaccessible by any of the machines I use.

$20 a year? The offer I'm getting is $7 a month or $70 a year. For something that will make my email completely broken.

I had that problem several times too, i had to first refresh the page orvopen a new window and start over. I also found that using move to: Deleted worked, and no infinite spinning, instead of clicking the delete trash. But I've been staying up all night, day after day, deleting nessage by message, and I'm exhausted, and no significant difference in used storage.
