I am using the free version of Outlook.com and followed the forums and help how to set up a GMail sync to Outlook.com.

However since two days I got this clicking on the "Sync Email" menu.

Even the X button on the upper right corner does not operates when being in this menu.

I tried this menu in browsers like Edge, Internet Explorer, Chrome, Opera.

All the same results.

Questions:

  1. can I use Gmail sync using free version of Outlook.com?
  2. do you know this

I have the same issue with daily Microsoft emails asking to "Please update your credentials" for a sync'd email account that was recently upgraded to a new server by the ISP (mypostoffice.co.uk).

I cannot access the Sync Email options at outlook.com to either remove the account or sync the account as describe on the multiple posts here.

Im trying to support my 86 year old mother who in this situation, and I have to say microsoft is causing her great distress with the daily messages advising to resync an account , with microsoft having removed the tools to so so.

As a paid up microsoft 365 customer, this is a totally unacceptable situation.

PS please note the daily email , currently being sent from Microsoft outlook, specifically advises to use the tools that are no longer working. As copied here:

Simon unfortunately Microsoft's Outlook team does not care about the users. It's been years that they have continually made it worse.

Best possible solution for now might be to add a filter rule to filter those daily emails to spam at least as someone else has pointed out.

As for Microsoft ever fixing the synced emails in Outlook. I think I have a better chance at winning the lottery. And I buy a lottery ticket once a year.

I've been experiencing this for the last few days. Frustrating.

Several weeks ago I moved our family email accounts over to Outlook.com after the free Google Apps tier retirement was announced. At that time I was able to add our custom domain and set it as the default From address in Sync email. Not so much anymore...

I did file a ticket with Microsoft, but it kinda' sounds like I shouldn't count on that providing a solution.

    Simon,

You can at least make sure that all your mail is automatically forwarded to outlook.com despite the failing sync.

Set up a filter rule at your mypostoffice.co.uk mailbox:

    • if subject is empty or if subject is not empty
    • forward to outlook.com address

This will make sure all your emails end up at outlook.com

Next - and this will remain something of an issue - you will need to make sure that your outgoing emails and replies are sent from the outlook.com address. For this you have to manually set the FROM address to your outlook.com alias, each time again.

You can enable the visibility of the FROM address in the outlook.com email settings.

Within these premises, our issue has become something of an annoyance. An annoyance that may be a bit too much asked for to our aging parents. So yes, Microsoft still has things to do; either re-establish the sync functionality or fix the remaining issue with the default FROM address that is still off.

It's "very funny" that Microsoft keeps sending me e-mails about broken synchronization with advices how to fix the problem in the Outlook settings, where you can only see the sentence "Unable to load these settings...". This level of amateurism could be expected from a no-name garage company, but definitely from Microsoft. Well, this is a big fail and shame. (I'm seriously considering to discontinue my 365 subscription.)
