I am using the free version of Outlook.com and followed the forums and help how to set up a GMail sync to Outlook.com.

However since two days I got this clicking on the "Sync Email" menu.

Even the X button on the upper right corner does not operates when being in this menu.

I tried this menu in browsers like Edge, Internet Explorer, Chrome, Opera.

All the same results.

Questions:

  1. can I use Gmail sync using free version of Outlook.com?
  2. do you know this

Well, I may have found a source for this myself:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/troubleshoot-connected-accounts-in-outlook-com-a99a1f0b-700d-4b3b-8f9a-28d463ff07f2

"**Important:**Microsoft removed the ability to connect new accounts to Outlook.com on May 10, 2021. Accounts that were connected before May 10, 2021, will continue to sync as usual. To see your all your email accounts, calendars, and contacts in a combined inbox, download Outlook for iOS or Outlook for Android."

Apparently this very important facility was removed from Outlook 365 in 2018.

The simplest alternative is to use Forward from the connected account.

Why does the sync pane on Outlook.com say "try again later"?

What kind of misleading nonsense is that?

Why does the sync pane not say that this facility has been stopped?

    Hi All

Even if the 'Connected Accounts' have been depricated, we still need the page Syn Email for

    1. To select the default Outlook.com account we want to send from. Bear in mind a lot of us have multiple aliases.
    2. Default ROM account
    3. Also to allow us set the default email address we want our emails to show.

So irrespective of anything else, we still need to access theses settings for Outlook's sake!

    Ron,

You still have not replied to my request for clarification on your post stating that this facility has been dropped:

"The connected accounts feature has been dropped."

You surely have not just made this up - so where is your Microsoft source? The web address please.

It would be better for you not to post such a statement if you cannot give any source.

I have tested email retrieval via POP3 through Outlook.com again today (Tuesday, 1st March); it still works.

That does not suggest the facility has been withdrawn.

However the sync pane is still not available.

I repeat my original message below:

Please clarify your message stating that this facility has been dropped.

    In particular:

    • please supply a Microsoft web source for this decision; such a change must be documented - where did you find it?
    • why does this facility still retrieve emails (though the page is not accessible), if it has been withdrawn?
    • why does the sync page advise: "Please try again later" if the facility has been withdrawn and will never be restored?
    • why does the Help page on Outlook.com advise:

"Sync basics - what you can and cannot sync

You can sync your Outlook data with mobile devices and with other applications. Outlook also syncs regularly with Microsoft Exchange account accounts and e-mail accounts. The descriptions below provide details about how Outlook syncs information."

Ron, it is not enough just to state the facility has been withdrawn. You must give a source.
