This browser is no longer supported.
Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
I am using the free version of Outlook.com and followed the forums and help how to set up a GMail sync to Outlook.com.
However since two days I got this clicking on the "Sync Email" menu.
Even the X button on the upper right corner does not operates when being in this menu.
I tried this menu in browsers like Edge, Internet Explorer, Chrome, Opera.
All the same results.

My problem is the same, but opposite. Despite my "primary alias" as my personal domain, the message defaults to "@outlook.com" when composed on the web, and "outlook_numbers&******@outlook.com" when composed from a mobile device.
Doesn't work for me. So, let's conclude that experiences may differ.
For years I had my primary login at the outlook.com address, but my e-mail was setup with the from address set at my own domain.
This morning I changed my primary login to another outlook.com alias I already owned.
After waiting an hour and logging out and in again, the default from address for new messages is the one with my private domain. This is an outlook email setting that can only be changed in that Sync page, which is dead.
TO everyone in this forum who has had the problem with setting default email address in Outlook.com (which I confirmed flows through to the Outlook 365 email client):
After weeks of failing with the Settings>Email>Sync Email route in Outlook.com email (and getting the ""Unable to Load these Settings" error), Donny's suggestion of going to https://account.live.com/names/manage](https://account.live.com/names/manage) and changing my "Primary Email Address" WORKED!!! :) No more frustration ... thank you Donny & [Diane Poremsky MVP.
NOTE: After I made the update in my Microsoft Account settings, it took about 15+ minutes for the default update to be reflected in Outlook.com and Outlook 365. To play it safe I would suggest waiting 30 minutes and then logging out and back into your account(s).

This did not work for me, actually. I switched my primary email to the outlook.com address several days ago and it still defaults to my custom domain.
I know this seems to be the opposite of what most folks would want to do, but we were thinking of getting rid of our custom domain.
Sure it works, solves the problem of the FROM ADDRESS isuue, but it does not solve the problem of the CONNECTED ACCOUNTS which you can't delete/update or change the password for.
Unfortunately, if you can't delete the connected accounts, you will continuously get email reminders from Outlook to update your Credentials! See attachment.
And this my dear friends, is extremely annoying!
And there is NO setting on the toolbar Settings Icon>Mail>Connected accounts
