My Outlook 2016 "Start Up Options menu" has no drop down submenu

I have Outlook 2016 on my home computer. Within the last few weeks, on reopening Outlook, I have received the message "Outlook closed while you had items open . Reopen these items from your last session ?".

I have tried to remove this function via File; Options; General; Start up options, but  my Start up options title does not have a drop down menu !

I have opened and reopened the Options menu, but to no avail. Nor is there an option to press on the heading "Start up options" which is located between Privacy Settings and Attachment options

I'm sure that I must have closed Outlook in the past without closing all items, but this message has only begun appearing within the last week.

Is there a fix?

    Is it just me or with Outlook 2016 just in just the past week or so asking for each and every attached file if I want to open this type of file? And of course just like the problem being followed in this thread the option to uncheck this function is grayed out and not accessible on the screen. When a single email has lots of attachments it's almost more annoying than the other prompt we are all still waiting for a fix.

    This problem has been ongoing since the beginning of July. Now the end of August. Microsoft team doesn't have anyone who understands how to back out of changes they made? Who at Microsoft is being held accountable for this problem impacting customers. It should have been resolved the day it was reported.

    @Gabrrybock,

    I apologize it's taking a long time to get a fix for the issue. The Outlook Team is working through some higher impacting issues but should get to this one soon. This issue has a workaround registry setting that should help mitigate it most of the time, documented in the Known Issue article, Outlook unexpectedly prompts to reopen items from your last session - Microsoft Support.

    To simplify the workaround, I created the registry key and shared it on OneDrive here, ReopenWindowsOption. The file name is ReopenWindowsOption.reg. You can download it and double click on it to add it to the registry. If you want to double check the file, download it, then right click it and click Open With Notepad. Or open Notepad and drag the reg key to Notepad to see it. After adding the registry key restart Outlook to pick up the change.

    Here are the contents of the file ReopenWindowsOption.reg:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Preferences]

    "ReopenWindowsOption"=dword:00000001

    Hey Gabrrybock,

    Het is boven twijfel goed bedoeld. Maar je **** beslist niet van een doorsnee microsoft gebruiker verwachten dat hij deze fix uitvoert. Het is te gek voor woorden.

    De enige oplossing: Microsoft, kom ik de benen en regel het goed. Twee maanden is al veel te lang.

    Vriendelijke groet,

    Joop de Bruijne

    Customer should NEVER need a work-around. This should have been fixed within a day or two of the issue being reported. Microsoft customer service is non-existent except for Chat and those reps are horrible. Do NOT let them take control of your computer. They have no idea what they are doing. The solution for me because Microsoft is so customer unfriendly is to go Apple.
