My Outlook 2016 "Start Up Options menu" has no drop down submenu

When this gets fixed the drop down menu under Start Up Options will be re-enabled.

Many thanks for your post to the community regarding the ongoing issue that is affecting many Outlook users and has been the subject of countless posts over a long time.

What is frustrating and is disappointing a lot of users, is not only the message that keeps appearing, but what appears to be the total lack of communication from Microsoft to moderators such as yourself, Jason and others, who are fronting this issue on Microsoft's behalf. That is not a fair go for good people that are trying to help. Please correct me if I'm wrong about this. Who knows, Microsoft maybe suffering from a lack of resources for any number of reasons.

For those out there who have been very helpful to users such as me, who are not great with behind-the-scenes settings and workings of software programmes such as Outlook, a big thank you for the time and effort you put into helping others out to have a more pleasant experience.

For what it's worth, I have been free of the pop-up for some time now. I did add the registry setting (1) but took it out later, and I did uncheck the cloud storage settings. I went back to version 2035, until the 2037 version came out and have been using that since then, even though it did not contain a fix for our issues, either the pop-up message or the startup options drop down box. I have checked the cloud storage settings, and a check of the registry settings shows that I have a REG_DWORD setting Reopen Windows Option set to (1) in version 2037.

We are fortunate that Outlook is still usable. Maybe if this issue had been significant, a fix would have been more urgently actioned. We can only wait and hope that a permanent fix is forthcoming soon.

Thanks for helping evangelize the solutions. It's a tough issue to mitigate because in effect the feature is in a constant state of flux of sometimes being there and sometimes not. The registry key is probably the best option, but it might not work all the time either, Outlook unexpectedly prompts to reopen items from your last session - Microsoft Support. As you noted reverting to 2305 is also an option but a lot to do to overcome the issue. My team helps the Outlook Team understand the top support issues and priority for fixes. This is one of the top issues we currently have prioritized. I apologize it is taking so long but we will stay with it until its addressed.

Thanks for your prompt reply. I do not consider myself to be accomplished in computing, more of a 2-3 on a scale of 10, and I suppose a lot of people are around my same level. However, I didn't find it too difficult to revert back to 2035, yes it took some time, but the guides put up were really helpful.

I ended up going to from 2035 to 2037 so that any security updates from 2036 & 7 would be bought onboard, a concern raided by Great White North who along with many others has been so helpful.

Perhaps a workaround is to add the security updates from the latest versions to version 2035. That, as I say, is coming from someone out of their depth with such matters.

Update Pete - quite agree and I would perhaps be on same level if not a 1 or 2 ... haha!

Confirm the 'work around' by deselecting/unticking Outlook Storage to Cloud still works great for me without the jolly pop-up box etc etc although I do not use Outlook 2016 on other devices thus probably not necessary in my position anyway?

Still no drop down box after Start Up Options obviously, but as Gabriel has advised this will by reactivated by sound of things when M/Soft finalise or sought out the fix!?

Again, I concur that the 'general' end user should not have to muck around with registry keys to fix an update bug which is now some 2 months old, nigh on.

In fact the inherent warning, while 99.90% of us are genuine, of these forums would elude to being cautious about doing so (altering registry or other) for security/cyber breach reasons.

As a matter of interest (following another thread above from 'MrVanish') I have an old business programme designed from Access/Excel etc and since this issue cropped up - when I double click the desktop icon for it, I now get a darn User Account Control (UAC) warning request that it (MSACCESS.EXE) wants to make changes to my PCSystem YES/NO. I went on M/soft Chat and they simply reduced the UAC control to the bottom layer of protection to avoid the UAC pop-up which it does. BUT I asked if it could impact or have any affect on security - they said definately not - in yet isn't that what its for - to warn !!!!????? sheeesh!

Oh well enough for one day.
