I have Outlook 2016 on my home computer. Within the last few weeks, on reopening Outlook, I have received the message "Outlook closed while you had items open . Reopen these items from your last session ?".
I have tried to remove this function via File; Options; General; Start up options, but my Start up options title does not have a drop down menu !
I have opened and reopened the Options menu, but to no avail. Nor is there an option to press on the heading "Start up options" which is located between Privacy Settings and Attachment options
I'm sure that I must have closed Outlook in the past without closing all items, but this message has only begun appearing within the last week.
Is there a fix?

Thank you. I previously mentioned I purchased Outlook 2021 retail, when in fact my Outlook is part of the Office 2021 Professional Suite retail version. Don't think it makes a difference. I did update as recommended and went from Microsoft® Outlook® 2021 MSO (Version 2306 Build 16.0.16529.20164) 64-bit to new version automatically installed Microsoft® Outlook® 2021 MSO (Version 2307 Build 16.0.16626.20086) 64-bit. Like yours, the Startup options dropdown is not there. Testing and will report back.
I manually updated to Version 2307 / Build 16626.20132 today and since then I haven't seen any “Outlook closed while you had items open. Reopen those items from your last session?” prompts at Outlook startup, but I've only been testing for a few hours and those prompts might eventually return. I'll post back if I see that prompt reappear again....
Hi garrybock (and other affected users):
I'm sorry to report that my “Outlook closed while you had items open. Reopen those items from your last session?” prompt returned this morning, and I still have no idea what items I'm leaving open that actually causes these intermittent prompts to appear. As far as I can tell, Version 2307 / Build 16626.20132 (released 26-Jul-2023) hasn't done anything to fix this bug.
Just a reminder that when you report the name and version of your retail MS Office 2021 product be sure to use the version number shown at File | Office Account that is beside the "About Outlook" button. That is the version that should match what is listed in the MS Office 2021 update history <here>.

Een vraagje: bij aanpassen register heb ik de waarde 1 ingevoerd. Kon kiezen bij de reopenwindowsoption voor hexadecimal of decimal....
Hi Joop de Bruijne:
According to the MSOutlook.info tutorial "Editing the Registry" at https://www.msoutlook.info/question/290 any REG_DWORD values that have a value between 0 and 9 can be entered in either hexadecimal or decimal form and you can toggle the between the two base types. That tutorial explains how to create a registry entry called "ShowBcc" at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Preferences (value type = REG_DWORD, value =1). If you follow those instructions just substitute the value name "ShowBcc" used in that example with "ReopenWindowsOption".
