I have Outlook 2016 on my home computer. Within the last few weeks, on reopening Outlook, I have received the message "Outlook closed while you had items open . Reopen these items from your last session ?".
I have tried to remove this function via File; Options; General; Start up options, but my Start up options title does not have a drop down menu !
I have opened and reopened the Options menu, but to no avail. Nor is there an option to press on the heading "Start up options" which is located between Privacy Settings and Attachment options
I'm sure that I must have closed Outlook in the past without closing all items, but this message has only begun appearing within the last week.
Is there a fix?

Hi XT600:
If that ReopenWindowsOption registry entry is missing then you can create it manually.
My 08-Jul-2023 post <here> on page 2 of this thread notes that the MSOutlook.info tutorial Editing the Registry at https://www.msoutlook.info/question/290 has instructions on how to add a registry entry called "ShowBcc" at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Preferences (value type = REG_DWORD, value =1). If you follow the instructions in that tutorial just substitute the value name "ShowBcc" used in that example with "ReopenWindowsOption".

I use Outlook 2021 retail version. I think this problem may have started after I tried the "Try the New Outlook" slide bar ( in upper right corner). I highly recommend not trying it, because none of your current settings are imported into the new. It will force a complete rebuild of your outlook configuration. I was fortunately able to back out but still have the issue with the startup options disappearing. OR it could have been that I tried "the new outlook" because this problem showed up recently. Requesting customers to edit the registry due to bad programming is unacceptable. Thanks for all the help on this.
Hi Jason,
Further to my messages of 19^th^ July, and on the subject of the repetitive message *“*Outlook closed whilst you had items open. Reopen those items from your last session”, can I add that even when I take care to close Outlook without any open items ------------------ then, on the next session, the message still appears!!
Out of curiosity I have pressed “yes” only to find two inboxes!!
Am I the only one who has encountered this anomaly?
I get two inboxes too, if I press "Yes". But only on the W10 installation of my Office 2016 H&B. On the W11 installation I have not observed this effect.
See my previous post for version details.
