My Outlook 2016 "Start Up Options menu" has no drop down submenu

I have Outlook 2016 on my home computer. Within the last few weeks, on reopening Outlook, I have received the message "Outlook closed while you had items open . Reopen these items from your last session ?".

I have tried to remove this function via File; Options; General; Start up options, but  my Start up options title does not have a drop down menu !

I have opened and reopened the Options menu, but to no avail. Nor is there an option to press on the heading "Start up options" which is located between Privacy Settings and Attachment options

I'm sure that I must have closed Outlook in the past without closing all items, but this message has only begun appearing within the last week.

Is there a fix?

Hi Jason and others following this thread,

    I hope this helps.

Yes, other members are still experiencing this issue as you may have seen. For the moment I'm not experiencing any problems, and this morning I have tried the following to see if the pop-up returns, as it did briefly yesterday when I played with the cloud settings.

1/ With store settings in the cloud enabled I left an email open and closed Outlook. It re-opened with no pop-up.

2/ With store settings in the cloud enabled, I did not leave an email open and closed Outlook. It re-opened with no pop-up.

3/ I repeated the above two steps with the cloud setting disabled. Outlook re-opened both times with no pop-up.

4/ The dropdown box is still missing in file>options>general.

As you are a Micrsoft Community Moderator, maybe you would be kind enough to advise (if you can) the ever-widening group of Outlook users that this issue is impacting, on just where Microsoft is at with regards to a fix for this issue.

If Diane Poremsky is still on this case, perhaps she might have some insight on the current situation.

    Thanks for your follow-up.

    Pete

    Good evening Jason,

Well done. This has been driving me crazy as well since last week. 8 calls to MS Tech (incl Tier 2) uninstall Outlook 2016 reinstall etc etc.

I did notice that tick/untick box re settings being stored in cloud but thought - hold fire until MS get around to a fix. My pop up box re unclosed blah blah etc etc, occured following recent update to Outlook Ver 2306 as well. Following your post above I unchecked the 'cloud' settings storage box/option and bingo the pop up has stopped. Have rechecked it and still no more start up pop up box about closing file/email that is open (which it wasn't) - will see how it goes tomorrow but that does do the trick it may appear. If it pops up again I'll carry on with it unticked. Although as you say there are still no options under Options> General>Start Up. MS hopefully will get this right with a fix dare we hold our breath!

    Thanks

    Terry

    Hi Jason,

My problem had gone away until this morning, when I changed the setting File>Options>General>store my Outlook settings in the cloud to off. The message re-appeared and went away when I rechecked the option. It's working fine now, though the three options for the startup menu are still missing.

For what it's worth, I am experiencing the same issue.

    It's extremely annoying!

    Microsoft: Please fix.

    Thanks!
