My Outlook 2016 "Start Up Options menu" has no drop down submenu

I have Outlook 2016 on my home computer. Within the last few weeks, on reopening Outlook, I have received the message "Outlook closed while you had items open . Reopen these items from your last session ?".

I have tried to remove this function via File; Options; General; Start up options, but  my Start up options title does not have a drop down menu !

I have opened and reopened the Options menu, but to no avail. Nor is there an option to press on the heading "Start up options" which is located between Privacy Settings and Attachment options

I'm sure that I must have closed Outlook in the past without closing all items, but this message has only begun appearing within the last week.

Is there a fix?

    Hi Jason,

    I'm using Outlook® 2021 MSO (Version 2306 Build 16.0.16529.20164) 64-bit.

    Trust this helps.

    Pete.

    Hi Terry,

I spoke too quickly this morning my time. After having Outlook closed for about an hour with the cloud storage option unticked when I opened Outlook the pop-up re-appeared but has only done so once.

The true author of the cloud storage settings option is Kevin Emmrich, and I thank him for providing the information.

Let's hope that a solution is posted soon!

    Pete

    Hello Jason,

In response - no probs with registry etc as I'm not going there lol. M/soft tier 2 did the other day and setting appeared correct with it noted as 1 (as opposed to 0, or 2) at end of string.

    a) My own environment 2016 MS Outlook full version is: Version 2306 (Build 16529.20182 Click-to-Run)

    b) In the business external environment ('Cloud') the Version is Microsoft Outlook 2016 (16.0.5395.1000) MSO (16.0.5393.1000) 32-bit

This, b) as mentioned is fine with no pop-up occurring. However this version does, under > Startup, have one box to tick or untick, i.e. Make Outlook the default program for E-mail, Contacts, and Calendar. BUT like a) above-own environment (which doesn't have any option/drop down at all, including or like this one just mentioned under b) it has no other options shown under Start Up to:-

    • always open warning box to shut down previous etc unclosed - Registery 0 at end of string from memory, nor
    • only open warning if in fact something is left open, or of course - Registry 2 at end of string, again from memory, or vice versa.
    • never open pop up box etc which correctly following registry string does in fact show 1 under a) above.....but obviously doesnt work or do the trick!? for a) above.

Aside from Petes' work around of course by unticking the 'Store to Cloud' box under Options, General etc.

    Hope this makes sense.

    Cheers & Regards

    Terry

    Hello CSG-08

    Good Day!

Hope you are doing well today!

My sincere apology if I failed to set set expectation about performing registry troubleshooting steps as it is definitely done with utmost care as it may result to something critical if not done correctly. Just to inform you we are still checking it and do further investigation. I tried to test your issue using my Outlook 2016 and I didn't experience just like your issue. The option that you are looking is not found in my version of Office used.

By the way, I forgot to ask "What is the exact version number of your Outlook 2016"?

We will investigate on this further and get back to them with an update, appreciate their patience.

    Regards,

    Hi Pete, Jason et al,

All good this morning (no options under start up aside) with Store Setting in Cloud ticked.

Interestingly I logged into external (cloud) work based environment and used MS Outlook 2016 (it syncs with own Outlook 2016 in own invironment) which has had no issues. Although did note it hasn't got the on/off options under sartup either.

Logged out of external cloud workplace and used MS Outlook 2016 in my own environment on lap top and bingo - pop up - resumed.

Unticked Store Setting in cloud and voila all good - no pop up. Will leave it unticked but Pete's right. Microsoft need to fix the glitch/bug as this should be able to be ticked AND options should be reinstated under 'Start Up' all of which have dissapeared in latest Ver 2306.

Thanks again & Cheers for work around in meantime Pete.

    Terry
