My Outlook 2016 "Start Up Options menu" has no drop down submenu

I have Outlook 2016 on my home computer. Within the last few weeks, on reopening Outlook, I have received the message "Outlook closed while you had items open . Reopen these items from your last session ?".

I have tried to remove this function via File; Options; General; Start up options, but  my Start up options title does not have a drop down menu !

I have opened and reopened the Options menu, but to no avail. Nor is there an option to press on the heading "Start up options" which is located between Privacy Settings and Attachment options

I'm sure that I must have closed Outlook in the past without closing all items, but this message has only begun appearing within the last week.

Is there a fix?

    Thanks Pete,

Flattery will get you everwhere lol. Well you suggested it (the work around) anyway. Just so happens I'm lucky perhaps and have not had another pop-up since. Yes we good hear - wish I could say the same for some clients! Will run into billions.

Maybe Bill G can flip a few tax deductible $ our way .... haha.........

Yup am sure they'll (Microsoft) get around to a proper fix - sooner - hopefully than later.

    Terry

    Hi Terry,

You are indeed a talented person.

Hopefully this will be resolved soon. Trust you are not being flooded wherever you are in NZ.

I use Outlook 2021 retail version. I think this problem may have started after I tried the "Try the New Outlook" slide bar ( in upper right corner). I highly recommend not trying it, because none of your current settings are imported into the new. It will force a complete rebuild of your outlook configuration. I was fortunately able to back out but still have the issue with the startup options disappearing ...

    Hi garrybock:

That makes me wonder now if there's some connection between the "Try the new Outlook" switch and the disappearance of my Start Up Options from my MS Outlook 2019 settings at File | Options | General. I might have accidentally turned that switch on when I hovered my mouse over it because I somehow ended up installing the experimental preview of the MS Outlook for Windows PWA (progressive web app) - see the images I posted in 07-May-2023 thread "New" Outlook for Windows UWP App (Preview) Installed Without Permission. I never launched this "new" Outlook app and tried to remove the last traces of it from my system with O&O AppBuster but perhaps the installation was enough to do permanent damage to my MS Outlook 2019 registry entries and settings.

According to the 04-Apr-2023 Microsoft 365 Insider blog entry Starting to Support Third-party Accounts in New Outlook for Windows if you turn on that "Try the new Outlook" switch to test the preview of the "new" Outlook PWA "You can switch back to your previous Outlook experience . Just slide the toggle off and it will automatically open your previous version with no data or email loss." That might be true for M365 but perhaps that isn't the case for perpetual editions of MS Outlook 2016 / 2019 / 2021 Click-to-Run.
