My Outlook 2016 "Start Up Options menu" has no drop down submenu

I have Outlook 2016 on my home computer. Within the last few weeks, on reopening Outlook, I have received the message "Outlook closed while you had items open . Reopen these items from your last session ?".

I have tried to remove this function via File; Options; General; Start up options, but  my Start up options title does not have a drop down menu !

I have opened and reopened the Options menu, but to no avail. Nor is there an option to press on the heading "Start up options" which is located between Privacy Settings and Attachment options

I'm sure that I must have closed Outlook in the past without closing all items, but this message has only begun appearing within the last week.

Is there a fix?

    Hi all,

The latest update is that this issue will be fixed in production in Version 2310 in late October 2023. We updated the status of the Known Issue article with this information, Outlook unexpectedly prompts to reopen items from your last session - Microsoft Support.

The issue is fixed in the Beta channel build 16907.15010. I am not sure how to get Office Perpetual on the Beta channel yet but if I get that figured out, I will post back the steps in case anyone wants to test it. Beta Channel is currently at build 16907.20000 so it already has the fix.

I'm afraid we won't hear from Jason and Microsoft again.

Fortunately, the registry tweak works 100% well.

It remains incomprehensible that Microsoft does not correct a serious error and that their service desk is completely unaware........

    Hi Joop de Bruijne,

Perhaps I missed it in the thread. Did Microsoft support say they are no longer working on this?

    Hi Ivo Schraepen:

If you want to restore the setting under the heading at File | Options | General | Start Up Options that controls the appearance of the "Outlook closed while you had items open. Reopen those items from your last session?” prompt at Outlook startup then the only way I know how to to this is to roll back your MS Office installation to Version 2305 / Build 16501.20210. If you want to try this workaround see my 24-Jul-2023 instructions posted on page 1 of skydiver68's Startup Options' Drop Down Menu Missing in Outlook 2021.

Before you roll back to Version 2305 just be warned that this will remove the security patches for the 10 exploits patched by Version 2306 / Build 16529.20182 on 11-Jul-2023 (see the Release Notes for Microsoft Office Security Updates). For that reason I have decided not to roll back o Version 2305 and will just wait for Microsoft to release a bug fix.

    Good afternoon, Jason,

Just a further note to say that I have followed some very recent advice, to update my Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2016 to the latest version 23707 and Outlook to version 2307.16626.2034 (Click to run)

After a few hours of no pop-up messages, the repetitive message Outlook closed whilst you had items open. Reopen those items from your last session has reappeared on my version.

I too have been running Outlook 2016 for years! Only in the past week am I receiving the message "Outlook closed while you had items open. Reopen those items from last session?" On the Options, General screen there is nothing under start up options where this could be turned off. On the Options Advanced screen nothing at all reflected for start up options. Also found nothing when looking at Mail vs General option.

This is extremely annoying. When I ran the repair from the Microsoft site it was even worse. Downloaded Office 365 with warnings the trial would expire in xxx number of days. So I uninstalled 365.

How do I resolve the issue under Outlook 2016? Something like this should not show up out of the blue when nothing has changed? One forum I came across said you can't do any of this if you are accessing a server, which I am with Spectrum. Well that makes no sense either since I've had spectrum as my email server from even before I upgraded to 2016.
