Online Outlook email account storage limit change ?

Hello,

As from 3rd March 2023, on my 20 year old online outlook email account, I now receive need more storage messages.

It says I am using around 6GB when there is only 5Gb available.

I thought the limit was more than 5GB, I vaguely remember some indicator in the past that showed I was nowhere near the limit.

After checking the available info I find the following - *"You have 5 GB of free cloud storage with your Microsoft account shared across your files and photos in OneDrive, attachments in Outlook.com and your Microsoft 365 apps. You also get 15 GB of free Outlook.com email storage which is separate from your Microsoft cloud storage."*I do not use cloud storage just the email account admittedly with thousands of email stored. This info suggests I have a limit of 15Gb in Outlook yet when using around 6Gb it says I need more as I'm over 5Gb The message on the outlook account states this was taking place from 1st Feb 2023 as well, yet this comes up from 3rd March.

I do not know if something has changed, or is wrong, or if I have misunderstood this.

It seems to me that contacting Microsoft is almost impossible ?

Thanks. Mike. UK

    Thanks again.

I just have an outlook formally Hotmail email account. That's it, no subscription.

This notice came yesterday, never really used the OneDrive thing although looked through it now.

I am trying to read up and what the other person here kindly posted.

It says things may be deleted automatically, don't even know what.

    Thanks.

    Mike.

    Dear Mike,

Thank you so much for your reply!

    1. Open your Hotmail account on the web and click on the top-right corner app launcher. Then select OneDrive.
    2. Check the files that have been automatically backed up. If you don't need them, try to delete them.
    3. Once you have deleted the files, click on the OneDrive taskbar "Show Hidden Icons," select Account, and click on "Unlink this PC."
    4. Restart your PC and check if the issue has been resolved.

    Warm Regards,

    Arif

    Thanks again.

I am really sorry but I can't find the app launcher in the top right.

I can bring up OneDrive though or what claims to be one drive.

I cannot find anything to do with automatically backed up.

    Nor hidden Icons.

All I am concerned about is anything going from my email account.

    Thanks.

    Mike.

I have the same issue, but yet when I check my storage it says I have 50GB free with my account. This sort of error message popped up a year or 2 ago and it turned out Outlook screwed something up with an update.. I tried multiple times to upload a screen shot of the info but it fails so I cannot share an image.

    Dear Mike,

Previously, I shared steps on how to check if your Outlook account storage is normal. You can simply go to OneDrive in your web browser and delete some files or directly open OneDrive and unlink your OneDrive account from your PC. This way, you won't see the OneDrive storage notification.

If you're unable to do this, please try the following steps to contact Microsoft support and ask them to remotely access your PC or check your account.

    1. Select "Other products" from the "Products and services" menu.
    2. Click on "Category" and select "Manage Account Security."
    3. Confirm your selection, then select "Chat with a support agent in your web browser.
