Online Outlook email account storage limit change ?

Seems I'm not the only one with this issue.

Email 7.9GB of 15GB

Onedrive 6.5GB of 5GB (over the limit, of which 110% is from emails).

Pretty silly as I didn't had this problems for years, just started yesterday with this issue

I can not send emails, only receive spam (which also got sky high since a few weeks, straight into my mail email, not in the spam folder).

I already removed 1.5GB of files/emails.

But removing 2MB emails to get rid of another 1.5GB....

That means more than 1000 emails to be removed to be able to send 1 email again.

So is the only solution say goodbye to outlook?.....

I'm expecting important email, so in that case I have 2 options

• Remove all emails I have
• Pay for Onedrive account which I don't need

I am not an expert, I originally came here for help myself.

I finally understood what had taken place and couldn't believe what Microsoft had pulled.

My account had not locked up even though at 6.2GB I was over the new 5GB limit given attachments are part of the OneDrive 5GB limit not the 15GB email limit.

It looks like this is taking place for different people at different times.

It is a dammed insult seeing this is effectively applied retrospectively giving now 5GB limit when it was higher at 15GB.

I mentioned that I had a lengthy email exchange with the Microsoft Escalations team who were helpful but mainly gave standard text.

I than had a 40 min conversation a few days ago.

My position is still that this is unacceptable seeing it has been done retrospectively.

The options I am aware of are.

1. Delete enough emails to drop below 5BG which if you need to check what to keep and what to go is a huge task given some attachments might only be a MB or so.
2. Pay for capacity. There are various options. There is one option at £20 or $20 for a year at 100BG, or it can be done monthly at £2 or $2.
3. On the phone they explained some way of having the emails on NAS home server utilising the PST file. I think they claimed such could be on a NAS if deleted from the online account. However I do not understand that and quite frankly seems too complicated given none of this should be happening.

I don't know if you are aware of the option to export a PST file which will have all the current emails with folder structure.

If you export, it might take a couple of days to have the file read for you to download but they send an email to notify you when it is ready.

It will be in the GB of size possibly around 10BG.

Various often free apps can bring up the PST file showing the emails and in their folders..

Some allow attachments to be brought up, some don't unless paid for.

There is the Outlook desktop app but to me it doesn't do much unless it's paid for.

To export the PST file on the browser Outlook I use the process is as follows -

Settings gear wheel top right / view all Outlook settings / General tab on left side/ Privacy and data / export mailbox.

If you do this all the emails you have now will be in the PST file with the folder structure.

I do not know if any of the apps to bring up the PST file can send them or utilise them other than just to view them.

I do not know if this exported PST file can be uploaded to another email account.

All that is above me.

However you still will have the emails with folder structure in the PST file which were in the account when the PST was created even if you delete them from the account.

This worth doing no matter what.

I in a previous message attempted to put two email addresses which I used.

They have been removed although I may edit them.

The CEO email which got me through is easy to find -

A general email which I had a thread with, all one word no spaces -

Thanks, already deleted not needed sent items and others which were really old a few days ago.

Mostly, it made little difference as most will have been without attachments.

The filter and sort only seems to do it for each folder but as you state they do come up in order of size.

I understand what you say now thanks but I can't delete emails with attachments just to get rid of the attachments because they are important, or at least to me.

And this will be a monumental task ie. to consider one by one which I would like to keep or lose you see.

Some will be old some will be recent if listed in size.

If listed in date, some will be important others not.

It still needs a decision on each really.

This is not aimed at anyone on this forum but Microsoft should be ashamed of themselves for pulling this stunt.

If anyone is a furious with Microsoft as I am and has abilities to get a cogent and honest response from them (insert laugh here), please let me know and chip in.

I find this change, and how it was implemented to be outrageous. I have family that have lost access to their emails until they subscribed to $1.99/ month increased storage. This is nothing but a money grab.

This thread has become lengthy, towards the end I mentioned lengthy emails with the escalations team and a phone call with them after I had emailed the CEO.

No matter how they spin it, the limit was 15GB now effectively 5GB.

At this point I cannot add anything else to what I already described expect my continuing anger at Microsoft rather like yourself and I suspect many others.

This should be a much bigger thing than it seems to be as well.

Above the account limit size more strange things happen these days.

I get tons of spam email since a few weeks into my inbox (not my spam folder)

I can report them, but doesn't help

Block sender button is grey, so can not be used (can be used for all other emails, but not for spam emails). Pretty strange.

Block sender button is possible in the app, but after deleting the file, it pops up again (so its not working)

Above that, last week I could not sent emails.

yes I already pay to have extra storage so that's not the issue

I was just sending emails, no issues there. But people did not receive it.

Also emails I sent to myself (with attachment) could only be found in the sent folder and not in the inbox...

Tried a few more times during the weekend, at some point I got messages the files could not be sent... why....

From 20 years a happy user, they screwed me over and I'm pretty done.

Really looking into alternatives.
