Online Outlook email account storage limit change ?

Hello,

As from 3rd March 2023, on my 20 year old online outlook email account, I now receive need more storage messages.

It says I am using around 6GB when there is only 5Gb available.

I thought the limit was more than 5GB, I vaguely remember some indicator in the past that showed I was nowhere near the limit.

After checking the available info I find the following - *"You have 5 GB of free cloud storage with your Microsoft account shared across your files and photos in OneDrive, attachments in Outlook.com and your Microsoft 365 apps.You also get 15 GB of free Outlook.com email storage which is separate from your Microsoft cloud storage."*I do not use cloud storage just the email account admittedly with thousands of email stored.This info suggests I have a limit of 15Gb in Outlook yet when using around 6Gb it says I need more as I'm over 5Gb The message on the outlook account states this was taking place from 1st Feb 2023 as well, yet this comes up from 3rd March.

I do not know if something has changed, or is wrong, or if I have misunderstood this.

It seems to me that contacting Microsoft is almost impossible ?

    My numbers are different but I'm getting a similar set of events. Essentially, I have nothing in one drive and attachments from my hotmail account are now counting toward the 5gb limit that's created for the onedrive account but it indicates that 5gb limit is applying to my hotmail account even though Microsoft has said that the attachments from emails should count toward the 15gb limit of the respective email account.

    It's like someone behind the scenes did not tell the system that the attachments in an email account are in a different bucket that's bigger and instead everything across email and onedrive is being calculated as a cumulative total and the account limit is set as 5gb.

    I had found this previously as well but unless I made a mistake someone else told me top right so I thought I was missing something.

    Anyway when I go to OneDrive by any route, it stats I am "over storage limit (100%), the a list of folders below.

    There is nothings in the folders.

    This particular stuff I had found previously.

    Nearly all of my storage is Outlook attachments on the top bar as attached.

    The bottom bar for emails still says plenty available 10.3Gb used of 15Gb

    Yet the warning on my Outlook page through browser keeps giving me a warning in context to the top bar ie 6.2BG used of 5Gb

    I would prefer to keep all my historic email with attachments.

    It is only the emails I care about.

    I couldn't care about Onedrive but if as you say are linked now, looks like emails or their attachments have to go ?

    And my apologies again, for some reason I just can't get my head around this.

    I just have an outlook formally Hotmail email account. That's it, no subscription.

    This notice came yesterday, never really used the OneDrive thing although looked through it now.

    Login to your Hotmail account.

    Settings gear > View all Outlook settings > General tab > Storage

    The recent update has added your Microsoft storage to this page.

    Click on the arrow for email storage to display the email storage.
