Online Outlook email account storage limit change ?

Hello,

As from 3rd March 2023, on my 20 year old online outlook email account, I now receive need more storage messages.

It says I am using around 6GB when there is only 5Gb available.

I thought the limit was more than 5GB, I vaguely remember some indicator in the past that showed I was nowhere near the limit.

After checking the available info I find the following - *"You have 5 GB of free cloud storage with your Microsoft account shared across your files and photos in OneDrive, attachments in Outlook.com and your Microsoft 365 apps.You also get 15 GB of free Outlook.com email storage which is separate from your Microsoft cloud storage."*I do not use cloud storage just the email account admittedly with thousands of email stored.This info suggests I have a limit of 15Gb in Outlook yet when using around 6Gb it says I need more as I'm over 5Gb The message on the outlook account states this was taking place from 1st Feb 2023 as well, yet this comes up from 3rd March.

I do not know if something has changed, or is wrong, or if I have misunderstood this.

It seems to me that contacting Microsoft is almost impossible ?

    For me, all I care about is if I am going to lose old emails of which there are thousands. Or will it just be the attachments from them.

    Old email will remain in your mailbox but to keep your mailbox under the (Microsoft Storage) 5 GB limit, you must delete email with large attachments. You can't delete just the attachments without deleting the emails they're attached to.

    Also, I have in the past attempted to contact Microsoft directly, I know not to even bother.

    I am an Exchange subscriber. Support responds very quick to my trouble tickets but they rarely help me solve my problems. 9 out of 10 I fix the problem myself and the other 1... they can't help me fix it.

    If you have more than 5gb of attachments you will stop receiving email at some point.     It looks like you could have 15gb of emails that have no attachments, which would be thousands of emails without an issue if they don't have attachments.

    Apologies if I've replied to someone elses question but thanks for the info.

    It just gets more complicated really.

    Microsoft always told us we had more capacity.

    (If in the unlikely event any one is reading this who is directly from Microsoft, can you contact me please so I can give Microsoft a piece of my mind.)

    Sorry for interjecting in to someone elses question here if so, but at his point I am lost as I mentioned previously.

    Thanks for that info, I think I get it now to some degree.

    This is annoying as we were always told by Microsoft we had more storage.

    I think they just want us all to pay.....I am looking to move to Yahoo as they provide 1TB of space I'm told. Shame as I have been with hotmail for more than 20 years.
