This just started happening. Whenever I open Outlook, I get the message "Outlook closed while you had items open. Reopen items from last session?" even though this is not true -- I did not have items open when I closed Outlook. Using Windows 11. Screenshot of what version of Outlook I have:

I'm on build 2306. Is this the reg key in question?

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Preferences
DWORD: ReopenWindowsOption
Value: 1

Yes.

Some users that updated to 2306 have reported that the key was not already in the Registry and had to add it and the value.

Are you kidding me? I'm not a computer programmer. I just want to get the pop up off my screen. Why should I have to go through so many steps. MS sucks. And no Diane or whoever, the Start Up Option does not do anything. You cannot turn it off. I've had this computer for over a year and it just started happening so there must be a way it turned on so there must be a way to turn it off!

I didn't roll back my version.

I didn't add any registry lines

I just unchecked all those COM boxes and restarted Outlook and the problem is gone.

My guess is that Outlook is seeing messages left open from a link to the email client you are using. You can always go back and add in your check marks back in for any/all of them if you wish.

It worked for me so I am sharing what I did.

I even opened double outlooks at the same time, and closed Outlook with an item purposely left open and got no more message when opening Outlook.

Is there a reason Microsoft can't send out a fix for this very annoying problem?

Microsoft has issued a fix for this issue:

    • We fixed an issue where Outlook would prompt the user to save changes to a meeting when no changes were made.

    at the following Microsoft link.

    Microsoft Release Notes

    Version 2307 (Build 16626.20132) Released today July 26, 2023

    Turn the Updates back on.

    Hi DrCard:)):

Does Version 2307 (Build 16626.20132) restore the missing settings at File | Options | General | Start Up Options?

    Dell Inspiron 5584 * 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.3208 * Firefox v115.0.2 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.23050.9-1.1.23060.1005 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.5.33.272-1.0.2069 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7279 * Microsoft Office 2019 Home and Business 2019 Version 2306 / Build 16529.20182 C2R

The File | Options | General | Start Up Options are not there, Start up options is there, but no options under it. The registry key for those options is still there and is set to the value of 1 (=Never), but it was that way before the update. I updated from 2305 to 2307.

The fix appears to be behind the settings.
