Just for clarification - this is happening to me as well but I suspect I know the reason it happens.

The e-mail that's being attempted to be accessed has been compromised in the past - in fact, it's probably featured in multiple data leaks; the most probable cause for multiple people having this issue within a close interval is that there has been a newer leak of old data or that new organizations got access to old leaked data and are attempting to get access to those accounts.

It's probably going through a list of thousands if not millions of addresses, so it probably tries X ways of getting in for each address for a few days and then moves on.

Either it's a fresh leak from Hotmail or it's some app people would have signed up to in mass amounts lately that have had a leak such as zoom or something

In my case I don't think so. I think it's a fresh leak because this has never happened me before and not only is it my email address (constant password reset emails) but constant calls to my phone number associated with my Hotmail account.... You know those scam calls where they ring for 2 seconds without you answering hoping you'll call back and it'll give them access to your phone.... I've had calls from at least 7 different numbers from Zimbabwe and Ghana... I can't help but think this is linked to the email hacking attampts seen as this number is registered to my Hotmail account...

Same here, getting quite a few per day on my backup as well (GMAIL).

It would be nice if microsoft allowed us to Whitelist countries as I currently won't be resetting my password (or logging in) from any country apart from where I live.

I too have been receiving a ton of password reset token emails on my backup (GMAIL) account. In the past 2 hours alone, i've received 6.

Just to add to this thread in case anybody at Microsoft is paying attention/cares and is keeping score, I've been receiving multiple password reset emails to my back up account over the last few days. I've changed the passwords to both accounts, but it's pretty disconcerting all the same. There was an unsuccessful sync apparently from Brazil (I'm in the UK), but also aware that IP address locations can be largely meaningless.
