In the latest update of Outlook for Mac I can no longer see a count of the number of emails in my inbox.  Is there a way to get it back?

    Hi Anna,

in the previous outlook (outlook classic) it was possible to see the total number of items in a folder or the number of unread items. in the new outlook, it's only possible to see the number of unread items. It's doing my head in. can you please fix it!

    Thanks

    Andrew

I just loaded up the latest "New Outlook" and the missing email count was the first thing I noticed. So I immediately searched and found this thread.

I am shocked. 31 pages of posts in four years about this and it's still not fixed.

What's wrong with Microsoft? This is absolutely pathetic. I'm out.

Both Apple and Microsoft are the industry leading pioneers of removing useful features from their products.

I can certainly move emails from my inbox to a folder via Drag & Drop, using 'new outlook', so that's one feature that's there :)

To be honest, I like the new UI, it's just a shame the total count is missing :(

    Thanks,

Hmmm, interesting.  It seems like there is a problem with my installation then.

When I spoke with a Microsoft support person (online chat), they told me the drag and drop feature must have been removed and justified their answer by pointing to to some online document that described moving mail messages via drag and drop with Office 2016. Since the document didn't specify Office 2019, this was their rational. Frankly, that is just lazy customer support.

You are using one time purchase version of Office 2019 and not the subscription Office 365, correct?

I wonder if my problem is caused by this method I used to move my profile and saved email from an older Mac to my newer Mac?

How do I migrate the new Outlook for Mac profile from one computer to - Microsoft Community

My old Mac was running Office 2016.  I did a fresh install of 2019 on my new Mac and then copied the profile folder from the old Mac. I had to reconfigured my email login credentials, but everything looked and worked fine except for dragging and dropping messages between local folders.

Interestingly, my Outlook 2019 does show the total number of email messages in my inbox and show the connection status while others on this thread don't see that.

I suspect I'm using the subscription version (I had no idea they were different). Version info below, interestingly I don't get the count at the bottom though. Sorry for getting your hopes up, on the bright(?) side we're all living with no folder count :(
