Outlook opens, then immediately closes

I just tried to update my dell desktop to Office 365, and now when i try to open Outlook, it immediately shuts down. clicking the outlook icon brings up https://outlook.live.com/mail/inbox but i don't want that. I want my traditional outlook. Help?

in the "Type here to search" box on the Task Bar type > cmd   >choose run as an administrator.. paste the commands into Command Prompt box.

Hit the enter key on the keyboard after pasting each command line.

cd "C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ClickToRun"

and then

officec2rclient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.12827.20470

Microsoft is automatically propagating a fix.....  I am seeing it automatically patch some of my clients i had not fixed yet, that complained earlier..

    The fix was applied globally (with activation/licensing servers) days ago.  If you are still experiencing this issue, it is likely something else - OR, your Outlook hasn't been able to reach out and refresh.  Here are the steps to use if you need to upgrade/downgrade.

    • Open a command prompt - elevated as an administrsator.
      • Do this by clicking on start, typing cmd, right clicking and choosing open as Administrator and then hitting Enter.  This will have gotten you a black window to pop-up.
    • In this window, you need to change directory to ClickToRun
      • Do this by typing exactly the following from the grater than sign > cd "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft shared\ClickToRun"
    • Now execute the downgrade command
      • Type exactly starting that greater than sign > officec2rclient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.12827.20470

    This will execute the downgrade so long as you have a good Internet connection.  If this command fails, let us know, we may need to point you to a different version.

    This problem is still occurring for me, and the instructions posted by Monkey57 aren't clear to me. (I'm not tech-savvy.) Can you help me? Is the automatic fix mentioned above still in the works such that I just haven't received it yet? This problem started yesterday.

    Responding for others.

    My issues was that I had a personal 365 account.  Then I had an exchange account through Michigan State University.  Then I had an exchange account through my employer. 

    Somehow my data (ost) files had been corrupted.  My work exchange account had my work exchange email, but it was under the MSU OST file or exchange server.  It would work via 365 Office on the Web Browser, but not through my PC Outlook at all.  Thus the crash and error messages.

    I uninstalled all Microsoft applications including Drop Box and some other third party applications.

    I reset my ASUS computer to factory settings and then re-installed everything (but didn't reinstall the MSU exchange email account)  Just my work exchange 365 and my personal. 

    Everything is back up and running perfectly, but I lost a day of my life.  lol
