Outlook - Android - Storage Use

Hello,

I'm not the first one I think to ask this question, but I cannot find any satisfactory answer - Is their any way to control the space  used by the Outlook Android App?

I just removed the account the App was linked to this morning : it was going up to 1.2 G - managing 01 Email account - linked to 01 cloud.

Gmail app - to which 2 Emails account (same one and one other) are linked is using Gmail for a total space of 258 MB - and access to data, including files enclosed to the email, is as fast as with outlook app.

Even if I would like to keep going using Outlook app - it seams just to be impossible to use until the question is solved.

Hope Outlook developer will one day find the way around this question - or at least to allow to switch most of the data on the SD card.

    After i read here i guess that i'm not alone. I report as well. I saw over 16 GB storage usage it shocked me. 😲

    Meanwhile but a little off-topic: Dangerous characters make Outlook App impossible. There is no way than to reset or update to against bad characters. But i can't now for much accounts... 🤯

    Update (Feb 2021): Storage usage shows now around 1,58 GB for no reason. Even i didn't reinstall or so. I can use Outlook App (Android) again. But still i don't unterstand why up and down... Was Outlook App Update since my posting there? Yes, Update did help, Version: 4.2104.2 from middle of february 🤷‍♂️

    Second Update (March 2021): It's back, not again! Now around 14 GB storage usage. 🤦‍♂️ I must use desktop or laptop again, to able to see my e-mails. Version: 4.2109.2

    It's time to tell: Dear Microsoft Support: Please fix it! And it's premium...

    Glad to see I'm not alone. Same thing, Outlook is filling up the filesystem until I get a message "too many files on filesytem, reset phone". Uninstalling und reinstalling fixes the issue until the next swell.

    I have two Exchange Online Accounts and two IMAP accounts configured. Seems to be related to the IMAP accounts.

    Okay, so we id-d that it seems to be IMAP related. Now, we need to all submit independent support requests to flood MS with the problem in Hope's they will fix it.

    To do so, in Android at least, in the Outlook App, click on the top left icon (may be a photo you selected for your profile), then the help icon (a ? in a circle) at the bottom left, then "Contact Support". It will come up with prompts on "How can we help?". I suggest "performance/crash" the "other", then complete a submission.

    If we all do this, perhaps it will be resolved. We must flood them with it.

    For your consideration, I gave this as my submission. Feel free to just copy and paste.

    MAJOR BUG REPORT: The app has a serious flaw. When commerce to an IMAP account, at least on Android, the app downloads a significant amount of the email in that IMAP account, resulting in the app using 1GB or more of data storage on the phone. The only solution is to delete the IMAP account. Resetting the IMAP details yields again the same problem within a day or two. The long term workaround it to avoid using IMAP in this app, pending this bug is resolved by Microsoft. Please pass this bug report to the developers. More details at

    Hi FB 10 - I will do this.  I have a ticket already for this: 15060581

    But no harm in raising another one.  I raised the problem with them in the last week in December, but clearly people have been raising it with them since before then - maybe even September.  

    I would change this bit in your suggested text "resulting in the app using 1GB or more of data storage on the phone" to "resulting in the app using all the available storage space and crashing the OS, often using store >8Gb or even more."

    Update: I've received a reply form MS support, stating they are aware of the problem and working it with no ETA. They also said others have reported the same. So good on you all for submitting if you have, and for those with this problem that have not, please continue to submit the support request as well. Consider also a review on the Google Play store noting this. The more pressure we keep on it, the more likely we'll all benefit from a fix.
