Outlook - Android - Storage Use

Mine still crashes.  But way before yours does in terms of storage.  Mine gives up at around 8Gb.  But there's still plenty of storage left overall (64Gb phone).  The error message from the OS is about the number of files, not storage per se.

I left it in its crashed state about four nights ago - and overnight the storage shrunk again to the extent the phone fully recovered... but only for 36 hours.

When talking to support this morning (ie the bit of MS that offers support to my business) they sort of suggested that as it was a non-MS account that was causing the problem it really wasn't anything to do with MS.  I didn't accept that point of view -but a bit pointless arguing.

Hope it carries on working for you.  I'm now resigned to needing two email clients....

I spoke too soon. This morning my Outlook Storage is showing 16.49 Megabytes! Phone storage at 100% and nothing working until storage freed. So - once again - reset and re-setup IMAP account.

I'm getting no help from MS support here.  I tried escalating it with the team that support my business account.  But as they are a separate team it appears they have no escalation route.  I'll try again with the in-app support - although I've been cut off each time the storage crashes the OS and each new agent takes us back to square one.  Quoting the ticket number doesn't seem to help.

I guess we'll just have to stop using Outlook....

Hi, My Outlook seems to be running OK now - no reset needed since 5th Jan. The User Storage fluctuates day by day sometimes up to 10 or more Giga and then, just before it causes my phone to hit its storage limit, it drops way back to the MEGA byte range. I have no idea why. I can understand why those users who use paying mobile connections get annoyed - it must get very expensive. Perhaps they should sue Microsoft for using unnecessary high data transfers. (That was a joke)

so I would like to add my couple of cents to the question.

I have the same problem, and I think it is related to a bug in the Outlook App for Android, when you use connected IMAP accounts.

In a previous post one gentleman listed the number of files created inside the outlook app folder.

I assume he had a rooted phone or set the app somehow to debug as access to this folder is not possible without root permissions.

I for myself had the problem that the app consumed around 30 - 40 GB with 3 linked accounts, 1 IMAP, 2 Exchange.

In my case (Samsung Galaxy S9 later S10) an error message came up that there are too many files and the phone need to be reset. Obviously after that error message creating new files (e.g. taking pictures) was no longer possible, causing several apps to crash.

I suspected another app creating random files, but thanks to this thread I realized it was the outlook app. I have now removed the IMAP account and the size has decreased to less than 1 GB.

In my case it was a (German) GMX account. The outlook app as had issued with this account in the past (e.g. adding it was only possible by using gmx.net instead of .de and then change the authentication).

I don't think there is any way for an end user to fix it. We have to hope that somebody @microsoft is reading this and then realizes he needs to fix something. 

So if you need to use IMAP you are better off with any other mailing app for now

Thanks for the info. It seems that the causes of the problem are becoming a bit clearer. Unfortunately no solution in sight yet. Come on Microsoft!!
