Microsoft Account Locked (Compliance Lock)

Hi,

When logging in to any Microsoft service I receive the message:

Your account has been locked

We’ve detected some activity that violates our Microsoft Services Agreement and have locked your account.

Unlocking your account

To unlock your account, you’ll need some additional assistance. Navigate to "aka.ms/compliancelock" and we’ll get you to the right place.

When I follow the link and fill out the form I received the reply that I violated the Code of Conduct and won't be able to access the services anymore. Any charges to my linked credit card will be stopped.

It does not tell me how I violated the Code of Conduct, nor does it tell me how to reinstate my account, while the form I filled out is called "account reinstatement". It also does not tell me how to retrieve my data.

The form states: "Your account has been suspended for suspicious activity, sending unsolicited emails, or for violating of Microsoft’s Terms of Use agreement, such as hosting photos, video or other content in violation of the Code of Conduct."

I'm pretty sure though I did not send SPAM or hosted/posted/shared inappropriate content. As for suspicious activity, I'm not sure what is included here, but I'm a basic user of the services.

What I would like to know is:

  1. How did I violate the CoC? In my opinion you can't just cut people off without providing a clear argument on what happened. As far as I can tell I did not violate any of the 10 commandments listed in the CoC.
  2. This account has existed for 23 years and never before has it been reviewed for any violation (that I know of). How can you just disable it and tell me I will never be able to use it again? (without providing any reason)
  3. How will I retrieve my data and access my purchased and payed for licenses?
    • Hotmail email conversations (not a priority as I don't use it for email and my last email sent was from March).
    • Onedrive data, including pictures of the early days of my children's lives. (I pay for additional storage)
    • Access to my Azure resources, connected to my MSDN subscription.
    • My (payed) Skype-In phone number I use for my business.
    • My MCP ID and transcript. This is my professional learning transcript but also counts towards my company's Microsoft Parnter Network competencies.
    • My digitally purchased XBOX games and apps (not a priority)

I've called and chatted with support, local and world-wide, for different services, but all are receiving the same answer from the CDOC team, as can be found under ticket number ***removed for privacy***, which I find unacceptable.

It's been 14 days now... Please help!

Regards,

Reinto_123

Because you (and the others) broke the terms and conditions for using Outlook/Hotmail. Didn't you read all thousands of pages of that agreement? No?

Why don't you have a backup of all that information out in Microsoft's servers? I keep backups of all email, documents, photos, etc. so if I was blocked I'd still have my stuff. I also don't rely on a Outlook.com email address as my only email address, nor is it my important one I use for banking.

It sucks, you (and the others) have lost your stuff because you (or someone broke into your account) broke the rules.

So you can keep bashing your head against the brick wall (no Microsoft employee is reading these forums) or you can choose to pick yourself up, recover what you can, and move on. As many have said there's so much more important stuff going on in the world right now.

You have a lot to catch up on. Let me be a good friend and help.

For starters, Microsoft accounts are used for far more than Outlook/Hotmail, they're used for every single Microsoft app, Xbox-related services, and OneDrive.

We are far more aware that there was an agreement than you are implying. The sum of that agreement, as with all file-related services, is nothing that violates the CoC, which is as simple as: no sharing harmful executables, no photos/videos that are graphic, violent, p****graphic, etc. And everyone here, including me, has been abiding with that agreement. I confess I've had sensitive files in my "Personal Vault" such as social security and insurance, but the Personal Vault says that's what it's there for.

And then out of the blue we are signed out of our accounts in Microsoft-related software, and as we attempt to login through the browser we get the message: "Your account has been locked due to violating or Terms of Services. Fill in a compliance form and we'll get your account back."

Throwing oneself into a tornado to get into the Magical World of Oz will yield less disappointment than filling in one of these forms. One alternate approach I took was going to reddit and complaining directly; I won myself a representative from Microsoft, scored two phone calls from him/her within two weeks, and was told that people higher up in the Microsoft hierarchy would look at my complaint. And they said, "Your account is eternally locked because we detected some serious violations of the COC, all services related to that account are forever terminated, and you are not allowed to make a new account with the same email."

Here's what many people (evidently including you) don't understand: aside from the fact that we had no content on our OneDrive, Hotmail, or whatever that could ever hope to be described as "violating" or "offensive", in addition to taking our accounts away as if we did, they absolutely refuse to elaborate at all what we have done to violate there Terms of Use. Did we lose our lives because of explicit violence and/or p***? Is it because we did something else? Nobody knows why this is happening. All that's known is the truth. And how devastating these loses could be.

I did have backups of my OneDrive files, so I was lucky in that regard. But luck in on and (almost all of the time) off for everyone who's going though this.

Question for you: if this issue does not relate to you and you claim that, since you're not too reliant on Microsoft's services, this won't be of any concern to you, then why the heck did you comment on this issue telling us that we are responsible and we should stop "bashing our bricks against the brick wall (no Microsoft employee is reading these forums)"? To make us feel bad about ourselves? To shatter our hopes that this issue will get fixed? Consider yourself lucky you're not a part of this and you have everything safe and secure with you. And next time you attempt to judge an individual like me, read the entire post first. I'm not alone.

No there's nothing for me to catch up on and anyone can post to any thread that they want to in these forums.

I posted a possible solution, you and everyone else are free to do it or not. I care not.

Moving on is an acceptable solution in the circumstances. But hey, if you got the time, energy, and money to waste more power to you. And no, I didn't waste my time reading your reply as it really doesn't matter, since I'm not a Microsoft employee and can do nothing for you except my advice that I've already given, and oh hey, there are NO Microsoft employees that are going to take note of your lengthy posting. So keep going, I'm sure it's great therapy to get things off your chest.

Good luck, you're going to need it!

Microsoft are all a bunch of cowboys we all agree, who are simply trying to control all their loyal hackers undermining their dubious privacy laws. As one department can't have a say or knowledge even in whatever the other department is doing or responding to, then Microsoft employees have to rely on the company script which harks on just how much customer privacy is important to them, so much so that you have already relinquished your data to their servers for them to monitor, You get what you get if you stay inside their box!
