Microsoft Account Locked (Compliance Lock)

Hi,

When logging in to any Microsoft service I receive the message:

Your account has been locked

We’ve detected some activity that violates our Microsoft Services Agreement and have locked your account.

Unlocking your account

To unlock your account, you’ll need some additional assistance. Navigate to "aka.ms/compliancelock" and we’ll get you to the right place.

When I follow the link and fill out the form I received the reply that I violated the Code of Conduct and won't be able to access the services anymore. Any charges to my linked credit card will be stopped.

It does not tell me how I violated the Code of Conduct, nor does it tell me how to reinstate my account, while the form I filled out is called "account reinstatement". It also does not tell me how to retrieve my data.

The form states: "Your account has been suspended for suspicious activity, sending unsolicited emails, or for violating of Microsoft’s Terms of Use agreement, such as hosting photos, video or other content in violation of the Code of Conduct."

I'm pretty sure though I did not send SPAM or hosted/posted/shared inappropriate content. As for suspicious activity, I'm not sure what is included here, but I'm a basic user of the services.

What I would like to know is:

  1. How did I violate the CoC? In my opinion you can't just cut people off without providing a clear argument on what happened. As far as I can tell I did not violate any of the 10 commandments listed in the CoC.
  2. This account has existed for 23 years and never before has it been reviewed for any violation (that I know of). How can you just disable it and tell me I will never be able to use it again? (without providing any reason)
  3. How will I retrieve my data and access my purchased and payed for licenses?
    • Hotmail email conversations (not a priority as I don't use it for email and my last email sent was from March).
    • Onedrive data, including pictures of the early days of my children's lives. (I pay for additional storage)
    • Access to my Azure resources, connected to my MSDN subscription.
    • My (payed) Skype-In phone number I use for my business.
    • My MCP ID and transcript. This is my professional learning transcript but also counts towards my company's Microsoft Parnter Network competencies.
    • My digitally purchased XBOX games and apps (not a priority)

I've called and chatted with support, local and world-wide, for different services, but all are receiving the same answer from the CDOC team, as can be found under ticket number ***removed for privacy***, which I find unacceptable.

It's been 14 days now... Please help!

Regards,

Reinto_123

Yet one more thing to point out: as my Microsoft account has been snatched by whatever force is taking them away (whether that be a hacker or Microsoft going on a power trip)  I have additionally lost all my friends on xbox live.

    I will repeat that.

I have lost all my friends on Xbox Live.

This is a breaking point for me. I’ve lost hundreds of dollars worth of games and DLC, I have lost all records and acheivements, but being forced to give up your friends due to a stronger force’s decision is literal mistreatment and disrespect. Whether Microsoft is intentionally sniping accounts because they can, or if they’re just hearing our complaints and don’t give the slightest care of what their consumers are suffering, this immorality has to stop.

I understand that, as the number of horrible things this year continues to increase, this might not be as much of an ordeal as a worldwide virus or an unjust murder. But as we, the people who have posted here due to the cruel losses they’ve experienced are the only ones who know about this ongoing catastrophe, this is bound to happen to anyone else, and they need to know about it. Please spread the word in any shape and word you can: Microsoft needs to hear us.

If Microsoft wants to finally take action and help us with this, then a HUMAN from Microsoft can respond as just admit they were WRONG. It is OKAY to be wrong, even as a massive company. But if there is very evidently something wrong, it is cruel and unnecessary to ignore the damage and let it continuously hurt others. Thinking that harming others is okay as long as you’ve got the rights and power: that’s what makes a monster. Please prove to us that you care about the people who have each pledged thousands to Microsoft and give us another reason to push through this year rough as it is.

Sadly I'm in the same boat.

2 months since my account was locked.... about 4 weeks for the CDOC to get back to me after completing multiple forms and spending hours on chat/phone calls with MS Support (don't waste your time, they're useless).

This was the final email that I received from CDOC:

    Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry as to the status of your Microsoft account. A thorough review was necessary before responding to your request for reinstatement.

Our review determined that images or videos of terrorist acts or extreme violence were shared from your personal OneDrive account. Content which contains graphic violence shared through OneDrive is a violation of Microsoft’s Code of Conduct, specifically this provision.

iv. Don’t publicly display or use the Services to share inappropriate content or material (involving, for example, nudity, ****, pornography, offensive language, graphic violence, or criminal activity).

Because of the nature of this content, our terms of use are clear and we conform to those terms, including closing accounts that have been associated with this content, regardless of how the content came to be stored on the OneDrive or the account holder’s intent.

Unfortunately, we cannot restore the account or provide any content.

    Sincerely,

    April

    Microsoft Customer Protection

No file name or date so I could take a look and potentially challenge them. Really strange that they are behaving in such an underhand way and not giving you an opportunity to either a) explain what the content is (difficult to do without being provided any information) OR b) delete the offending content.

Shocking behaviour and not something you'd expect from a company like this.

The irony is that all my 'content' (family photos and videos) are stored in iCloud. I was hoping to make the switch to MS - f. that!

They deserve to be in the news for their despicable behaviour and I hope that a class action lawsuit is brought upon them as they just seem to be treating their customers like trash.

    Listen, everybody,

They probably know at this point. They're likely very well aware of the problem that people all over the world are exponentially getting this problem. Anyone who has yet to hear from Microsoft about their locked account due to a false violation, good news and bad news. Good news is, you will, I promise that. Bad news is, you'll get the exact result you weren't hoping for: due to your "violation" your account is as good as gone, and you aren't even allowed to make a new one with the same email address.

I spent 5 years working for every achievement in Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, and at the time this started happening that was about 105 achievements. In addition, I had approximately $200 worth of Marketplace DLC. Since the game is entirely dependent on a Microsoft account, having mine locked forever left me no choice at all but to re-buy the game (the first time I got it was for free, which is now impossible to do today), re-earn my achievements from the ground up, and burned another $100+ to re-get DLC. And unfortunately, I couldn't even go to Mojang (owned by Microsoft) to complain, because 1) it's not exactly their fault this happened exclusively to us and 2) they are just as ignorant, stuffed with karma, and megalomaniac as Microsoft is.

I'm not sure at all what to believe at this point. A family member theorized that COVID-19 is where this started, as hackers, spammers, and frauds are a lot more common and have likely cast this upon us in some shape or form, but it still doesn't explain how or why Microsoft refuses to make a slight attempt to repair any damage done to THEIR users. Likely, going to them in person, pointing out the worldwide issue, and showing emotion could more than likely make this issue (as well as the world) a better place, but COVID-19 still reigns and makes it impossible to show any powerful senseless cooperation what's going on. So maybe that is the reason behind all this.

Either way, Microsoft is not convinced to take any single action at all, either to fix the problem or even just for goodness sake just come clean. A game I'm looking forward to playing comes this Tuesday (I could've played the beta 2 months earlier if it wasn't for this atrocity happen) and with a new account, I'm technically ready for it, but am painfully not getting too eager, as Microsoft accounts continue to die like flies.
