Microsoft Account Locked (Compliance Lock)

Hi,

When logging in to any Microsoft service I receive the message:

Your account has been locked

We’ve detected some activity that violates our Microsoft Services Agreement and have locked your account.

Unlocking your account

To unlock your account, you’ll need some additional assistance. Navigate to "aka.ms/compliancelock" and we’ll get you to the right place.

When I follow the link and fill out the form I received the reply that I violated the Code of Conduct and won't be able to access the services anymore. Any charges to my linked credit card will be stopped.

It does not tell me how I violated the Code of Conduct, nor does it tell me how to reinstate my account, while the form I filled out is called "account reinstatement". It also does not tell me how to retrieve my data.

The form states: "Your account has been suspended for suspicious activity, sending unsolicited emails, or for violating of Microsoft’s Terms of Use agreement, such as hosting photos, video or other content in violation of the Code of Conduct."

I'm pretty sure though I did not send SPAM or hosted/posted/shared inappropriate content. As for suspicious activity, I'm not sure what is included here, but I'm a basic user of the services.

What I would like to know is:

  1. How did I violate the CoC? In my opinion you can't just cut people off without providing a clear argument on what happened. As far as I can tell I did not violate any of the 10 commandments listed in the CoC.
  2. This account has existed for 23 years and never before has it been reviewed for any violation (that I know of). How can you just disable it and tell me I will never be able to use it again? (without providing any reason)
  3. How will I retrieve my data and access my purchased and payed for licenses?
    • Hotmail email conversations (not a priority as I don't use it for email and my last email sent was from March).
    • Onedrive data, including pictures of the early days of my children's lives. (I pay for additional storage)
    • Access to my Azure resources, connected to my MSDN subscription.
    • My (payed) Skype-In phone number I use for my business.
    • My MCP ID and transcript. This is my professional learning transcript but also counts towards my company's Microsoft Parnter Network competencies.
    • My digitally purchased XBOX games and apps (not a priority)

I've called and chatted with support, local and world-wide, for different services, but all are receiving the same answer from the CDOC team, as can be found under ticket number ***removed for privacy***, which I find unacceptable.

It's been 14 days now... Please help!

Regards,

Reinto_123

    Hello ,

i'm xbox and pc gamer ,  i was not able to play my games because of this issue

honestly the only way to get your account back is to fill the ticket compliance .

I have had this issue too , i've spent hours calling the support for no result ( more frustration , avoid calling them for this kind of problem they can't help you ) .

I had to wait more than 3 weeks to recover my account after filling the survey .

I did not received any confirmation from microsoft , i had to check everyday if my account was unlocked .

I hope it will never happen to me again .... only solution is beeing very very very very patient .

    kr .

    [FINALLY GOT A RESPONSE]

    Greetings all,

I have finally got a response for my compliance form from the Microsoft team after 6 months of waiting. My email account was locked for the reason which was I had accidentally logged in to my email using a VPN. However, the response is Bad news. They weren't able to unlock my account no matter what correct information was given. This is what they had said (https://i.imgur.com/pTedfUQ.png) :

    "Hi,

This is Ethan with Microsoft Customer Support again. I hope you are doing well today.Microsoft restricted access to your account due to a violation of the Microsoft Services Agreement. Violations of the Microsoft Services Agreement may require Microsoft to restrict access to particular content in your account and, in extreme cases, permanently close the account. We have evaluated your appeal and have verified that activity occurred on your account that violated the Microsoft Services Agreement. To read the Microsoft Services Agreement, please visit: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-live/microsoft-services-agreement?woldogcb=0.There is nothing further that I am able to do for your account because of this block. I will go ahead and close this case as resolved now.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we investigated your issue. Have a great day!Sincerely,

    Ethan B"

So basically Microsoft is a piece of sht company that deserves to get disrespected.  Please everyone, do not use anything/buy from Microsoft. Trash support with agents that don't provide support.

So i have actually had my account unsuspended. I went through the Microsoft complaint procedure and someone in there complaints department has sorted this for me. I suggest you all raise complaints as well and i hope you are as lucky as me. I actually spoke to someone on phone, asked me to fill in recovery form again just so i could verify i am the account holder, and then she told the online safety team to unblock my account. My main concern was my xbox so i sent my email to xbox vice president phil spenser philsp@microsoft.com my email was then passed to complaints team. Google microsoft ceo email and then send email to that address i suggest if your query isnt xbox related.

its been 6 months and my account is back at last. I asked why it was suspended in first place and no reason was given. As i suspected from the beginning, it shouldnt have been suspended in first place. Just glad its all sorted. Best of luck to the rest of you and hopefully at somepoint they will destroy there evil algorithm that is blocking accounts for no reason

I've been waiting 3 weeks now and no response from Microsoft besides the b.s. "oh we will have someone contact you within 24-48 hours" b.s.. I tried using the account recovery 3 times now, but each time they say they can't verify my identity. Could Microsoft employees possibly be stealing files from customer's OneDrive storages? I bet employees are stealing nudes, private images, and important documents from customers. This is extremely frustrating as I was working on a Python program, but now hours of work is locked behind Microsoft's b.s. compliance lock. I want to delete all my Microsoft accounts now, but I'm worried they will steal all my data, can they do that? Is it pointless to even try? I tried calling but every time some machine female tells me the phone systems are down... I even cancelled my OneDrive subscription for this account and they still charged me! Unbelievable. This will only push me towards using Apple products and boycotting any Microsoft product. I can't believe they are treating their customers like this. All I had wanted to do was migrate my data from this account to the new account, but now I am stuck without my data and without access to my new account.

It's such a joke, was planning on trying to get the new Xbox but as of right now (with two years of game pass ultimate wasting away in an account I can't access.) there is no way I want to have any account with any sort of card info with this company. They have completely lost my trust and unless things change very quickly they'll never see another dime from me. I'm not at all scared to get legally involved with them, my uncle is a great lawyer and I'm sure he would love to rip these guys a new one if I told him about what is happening. I've got a ps5 otw and I may never go back, building a pc next and will do everything in my power to not send another dime to this company unless this gets fixed (and I mean fast). That response you got is an absolute joke, they must have about 10 people only working 2 hours a day in their customer service department because it's impossible to get anywhere. Next step will be commenting on every major Xbox influencers page and videos to expose the CUSTOMER ABUSE, doing everything in my power to keep people away from these crooks until they fix my problem. I hope yours gets figured out also, there's still time so hopefully they wise up and do the right thing for their loyal customers. They give Sony a lot of 💩 for "not being upfront with customers" Oh really Microsoft? Sounds familiar... 🤔🚮
