I'm getting the error message below when save a draft email. I have IMAP account set up on Outlook 365.

"The item cannot be saved because it was changed by another user or in another window.  Do you want to make a copy in the default folder for the item?"

Thanks,

The workaround didn't work for me.

This problem has been around for a long time, and the priority that Microsoft places on this work is probably not very high. I believe that all the people who are victims of this problem should encourage Microsoft to work more on this problem. One way to achieve this would be to make our voices heard on social media. If anyone knows anything about it, don't hesitate to take action! This gesture would be good for everyone. On the one hand, perhaps Microsoft could better assess how annoying this problem is. On the other hand, we might have a real solution more quickly.

    Have a great day!

    Hello!

Any progress on fixing this issue?  It's been known for at least 8 years:

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/msoffice\_outlook-mso\_other-mso\_2010/this-item-cannot-be-saved-because-it-was-changed/71ec297f-31f8-4cbc-be1e-cf686f611dc6

How "actively" are they investigating it, exactly?

While I'm sure some folks who are forced to use this application may appreciate this "workaround", it is not reasonable to ask a user to take 5 additional steps to close an email that they've read. Please advise the team (of one person, perhaps?) working on this, to escalate this matter, so one of your more populate pieces of software can be considered a viable alternative to Gmail.

Thanks for your contribution to this thread, as heated as it has become (understandably).

    Regards,

    Paul

Besides the inabillity to fix an issue for years, the capability of Microsofts Support Team to provide always the most inappropriate solutions and workarounds is just mind-blowing.

For everybody looking for a real workaround, this is the solution:

    1. Head over to "Outlook Options"
    2. Switch to the "Mail" tab on the left hand side and
    3. scroll down to section: "Replies and forwards"
    4. Check the checkbox where it says: "Open replies and forwards in a new window"

From now on replies, forwards and new messages will be directly saved to the drafts folder and won't be displayed any longer in the Inbox (where they don't belong... yeah I know, the usability is waaaaay better that way... sure, we see the outcome.)

    Sugdeek,

You are so right. Microsoft has been saying 'this is a known issue' for years now. How stupid do they think we are?

Anyway - your suggestion worked perfectly on my desktop.

Thanks so much to bring closure to a very annoying feature.

    Cheers
