ToDo, Flagged Emails and opening in Outlook Desktop

When I open MS to Do app and open whether it is an email flagged or a task from my planner in teams when I try to open it, it opens in the web-based instead of the desktop. Am I missing a connector to my desktop or something?

I cannot seem to open emails from any Tasks or ToDo whether they be online or in the App and it's making me nuts. I am full sure this used to be possible in Office. There doesn't even seem to be a spot in Contacts where tasks can be added to people. I would be fine to add a task to a contact and then navigate to the latest email of that contact, or even be able to open a contact from a Task. Am I missing something or are these things really not possible in Microsoft 365?

Did you change any settings? Mine still does not function like this.

Stumbled on this thread looking for help with the same request: Using the ToDo app to open emails in Outlook desktop instead of web, but I can also confirm the ToDo pane in Outlook desktop does open emails in the desktop app and not the web app for me as well.

Correct, I'm on a PC. As you know, historically, the functionality of the Office apps on a Mac lag behind their PC counterparts.

I'm also on PC (Windows 11) and I still have the issue.

I do see the To Do icon in the left-hand pane; however, clicking on that To DO icon still opens up the Web-based version in my browser which defeats the purpose.

Howe are you able to click on the To-Do icon and keep it in the Outlook desktop app? Is there a setting I'm missing to enable? I can't find anything relevant to change.
