ToDo, Flagged Emails and opening in Outlook Desktop

Thanks and yes "OWA wrapped in a "desktop app" --- so true and shut absolute ****. It's not usable on a professional level which is their bread and butter. Microsoft should think about ignoring their prime user group.

I refuse to use anything OWA **** becuase it's essentially unusable and let's not get started with how absolutely horrible new Outlook is. Was forced to use it for a client for a few months so got to know it very well and the more I learned, the worst it was. The only nice feature is being able to reschedule a series from a certain point moving forward without disturbing the meetings that have already occurred.

Half of these "apps" get deprecated, change names, or morph into something so different the team has to learn and configure it all over again. The churn of just the Microsoft apps is so rapid it's prohibitive in a business setting where teams run too lean to make themselves dependent on apps that may or may not exist in 6 months.

To Do and Planner are exceptions. If an app sticks around for several years I'll use it, otherwise it's just more fluff.

After much disappointment with the lack of integration between the Outlook desktop app and ToDo, I switched to TickTick for my GTD flow. The app is better than MS ToDo in terms of flexibility. To be honest, after a while using TickTick, I now feel that ToDo is an excellent to-do list app, while TickTick is a more mature GTD app, which is probably what I was looking for.

Although there is a nice add-in in Outlook for TickTick (and it works smoothly in transforming an email into a task in TickTick), it still does not allow to link back to the original email in Outlook, which is again a shame.

It is all so frustrating that MS cannot prioritise a decent GTD app that integrates well with its Office365 ecosystem (Outlook and Teams, mostly). The idea of flagging emails and making them available in ToDo is excellent, but then why not be able to come back to the email in the Outlook app? So much needless friction is just irritating.

So I am out, but still unhappy.

I think the rollout of this version is fairly recent in our org or I didn't notice. So many of these apps come and go I stopped looking.

I am a big user of the To Do app myself, for keeping track of everything. We also use Planner for tasks within various departments, and these tasks show up in the To Do app, so it's not something I can simply stop using.

The "old" Outlook desktop client has the To Do app built in. So you can use this "version" of the To Do app which does open the items in Outlook.

A nice little trick is to right click the To Do app > Pop out app

Better than nothing, since, yes, it seems like MS wants to force us into the severely feature lacking "New" version of Outlook (read: OWA wrapped in a "desktop app").

Yes, the online versions totally suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks beyond belief. It's like they are in a race to the bottom with crapple and google.
