iOS Outlook App - repeatedly closes on-screen keyboard (whilst typing!) and “attached” keyboard

I’ve been using iOS Outlook for a while on an iPad Pro. Apart from its quirky style, which is a bit of a steep learning curve, even coming from over a decade of using Outlook for Windows, it has a major keyboard bug. It closes the on-screen keyboard (whilst typing!) and even an “attached” physical keyboard is deactivated during typing.

This manifests itself thus: you can type two or three words, then the keyboard on the screen disappears. So you reload it, type a bit more, and it closes again.

It does exactly the same thing for at attached physical keyboard.

If I switch to the iOS Mail app (native Apple), I have no keyboard issues, either on screen or physical. The same is true for all other apps on the device.

This strongly supports the fact that the iOS Outlook app has a keyboard bug. I’ve reported this to my IT department, who say nobody else says it does this. I have seen online similar iOS keyboard issues with Microsoft apps in the recent past, so I suspect this is a known bug.

Solution is not to use iOS Outlook for typing. :-)

Anybody know a ‘fix’ for the app please? I’ve reinstalled it, to no benefit.

I have also had this exact same problem on my iPhone Xr with the latest iOS 14.2, and only with the Outlook app.  This is my work phone, which is managed by my organization, so many of the suggested fixes here are not easily available to me.

For anyone else in this situatuon, I have found another fix that I can actually do myself that seems to be working for me:  Turn off Slide To Type

Go to Settings -> General -> Keyboard and untoggle “Slide To Type”

Hope this helps someone else experiencing this maddening problem.

This still is a bug in Outlook for IOs.  It happens when you forward an email.  If youre only replying, the keyboard behaves but if yiu select forward instead of reply, then you get this keyboard bug.

is there a patch for this coming?

I’m so very grateful to find this thread - but equally frustrated to learn that even though the problem is so widespread and has been written about here for so long, neither M$ Apple or Outlook appear to want to take any responsibility for acknowledging or fixing this this. I really hoped my ipad pro could fulfill all my work email needs, This issues renders my email unusable inetrmittently and without notice . I’ll try the fixes but the reason why i muddle on is that it doesnt happen all the time - again for me its only in Outlook, on my ipad pro with the majic keyboard which i bought brand spanking new with all bells and whistles with a price tage to match only three months agao. Not the sort of glitch you’d expect when the kit is so very high end cost-wise.

I can almost replicare this consistently when:

    1 you get an email

2 you reply ti the email using the bottom reply feature

3 you go back to the first email and forward it to someone else using the specific email ... menu (not forwarding your reply)

during the forward this issue happens almost every time!
