Outlook app on iPhone is SOOOOO SLOOOOOWWWWWW!!!

The Outlook mobile app is extremely SLOW! Everything about it! Typing an email is SLOW. Scrolling through my inbox is SLOW. Using the calendar is SLOW. Going into the settings menu is SLOW. Searching is SLOW. Even typing a letter or hitting the backspace key is SLOW!

I'm using an iPhone XS running the latest iOS (13.3.1) and latest version of the Outlook app (4.30.0). I’ve tried everything...uninstalling and reinstalling the app, rebooting the phone, hard and soft reset.  I have deleted old emails to clear out my inbox...no help. This is the only app I have problems with out of about 50 apps on my phone. The phone has plenty of CPU and memory available. On my desktop PC, the Outlook with Office 365 account works perfectly fine with no performance issues. Webmail also works fine.

I opened a support case through the mobile app and was told by Microsoft they're aware of the issue and are working on a fix. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR AT LEAST 6 MONTHS!!! COME ON MICROSOFT, GET IT TOGETHER!!!

Turning off cellular and wifi on my iPad fixes the speed issue. Not really a fix!

When the networks are turned On, the problem is back.

Same issue , however its intermittent.

    i am on ios 13.6

I came to this thread in search for an answer to this issue myself, but looks like i am reiterating what others have been saying.

Outlook on my ipad for the past couple of months has been pretty unusable, in particular the calendar where the input lag can be over 10 seconds at a time. Other applications have been running fine, as I would assume so as it’s an iPad Pro 2018. I have been a using it on this device since early last year, but it’s only since early March that i’ve noticed any issues.

My iPhone 11 Pro has been sluggish with it as well, but the iPad is noticeably worse. Again, like a few others here, I use it for my company e-mail, and there is no other solution (web client doesn’t work as there are security restrictions), so it’s having a significant impact on productivity.

FYI, I've been having the same issues and I realize its not ideal, but using the web interface on iPhone/iPad is much faster than using the app for me.  Good luck, hopefully there'll be some kind of fix soon... ;)

So I got my hands on one of out field teams iPad after swapping them over to a new known and confirmed working iPad.

Removing and reinstalling the apps using Intune did not resolve the issue (We use Intune to manager all our mobile devices and apps from a single pane of glass). But I was able to figure out a solution that we have now repeated 6 times.

We did a full on recovery of the devices using iTunes. not using the factory reset on the device. When we did the reset on the device the issue remained. Once the recovery process completed, we signed back into Intune and allowed all our apps redeploy. (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, Teams). And from there everything has been smooth with out issues 4 weeks and counting.

So again. Recovery Mode, iTunes on the computer, restore and update = Happy iPad and Happy user.

This leads me to believe a bad update happened at some point to these devices and all future updates did not correct the issue.

Hi PatrickBehm - Glad to hear you made progress! Thanks for sharing the update. I have a couple questions...

For those of us who don't use Intune, I wonder if it would suffice to back up the iPad/iPhone to iTunes, wipe the device, and then restore from the backup. Or would it be necessary to factory reset the device followed by a complete fresh iOS install?

What is the difference between iTunes "recovery" vs "Erase all content and settings" on the iPad/iPhone itself?

It seems like the iPad/iPhone is retaining is old/bad data from a previous version of the Outlook app. It also seems like restoring from any backup, whether it be iTunes or iCloud would bring back that old/bad data. Hmmm.....
