* Locked

On Sat Jan 8, 2022, my outlook/hotmail account was temporarily locked due to "unusual activity". I requested a verification code, and my account was unlocked. I changed my password. I logged in OK the next day. I can receive emails, but as soon as I send an email, my account is locked again. What can I do?

    I have had the same problems-- being locked out because of the wrong password but it wasn't. I was changing them constantly and noticed MS wanted me to agree to them changing my emails. I did not agree and felt it unreasonable. If this is what was going on I need to close the outlook. 2. Each time I was asked for more verification beyond the secret questions, like who were my latest emails to and what was in the subject line. A month of this to wait 3 days each TIME to unlock!! even though I had given the code just sent. 3. I found a list of passcodes they had sent so kept them for the next time and they were all WRONG. They had 8 digits as required but instead only took 7. 4. When they 3 times offered to send a text code to my home phone AND NOT OFFERING FOR MY CELL PHONE [have not changed numbers in years], I felt these were more than just mistakes. 5. Today, I was told they could not find my account at all! when I was looking at it on my computer minutes before. Thought my computer was slow, bought a new one, had Geek squad and HP support and it keeps happening.

    Whilst my Hotmail is working fine again on my desktop PC, things are not so well on my iPhone since things went pear shaped.

    Before the "crash", my mail app on my iPhone which is synced to my Hotmail account duplicated the desktop version including all of my folders and the POP folder (as I have my account linked to a Gmail account for back up). Now, the POP folder doesn't exist on my phone so once I read a email in my Inbox, it disappears into the ether for good since there is no POP folder for it to go to.

    I've tried adding a new folder on the iPhone but it wont let me and I've reinstalled my Hotmail account a few times using both POP and IMAP to no avail; the former doesn't import any folders over but does get my emails; the latter rarely gets emails but has all folders bar POP.

    Sorry this sounds garbled by any suggestions anyone?

    Thanks in advance.

    Sorry for the late reply as I had got locked out and you can't post on the forum without being logged in *facepalm*

    I first got locked out when I used an Android email app called Spark. After that I've used web-mail on Firefox and Bing browsers with the same issue repeating incessantly. Wasn't using any email client (Thunderbird etc)

    I'm just checking all the replies now and I see that the moderator has posted a fix, will try it now and see if this resolves!!

    Thank you, finally I can get in and send emails!

    I would say though, you still require two more mobile attempts to do this, as the link still sends you to the "account locked" screen where you need a mobile number to get code, and it still remembers the ones you have previously used, saying "limit exceeded, try again tomorrow" - but then you get through to a new verification screen which asked you to do the same again (but looks slightly different) but still acts on the same memory for previously used mobile numbers.

    Anyway, with thanks from friends (have exhausted so many family members and friends with this) I managed to get in and for now, it seems fine. Will let me send emails at least and i have been able to get in on my phone.

    Spread the word.
