Outlook Android app cannot login IMAP email server.

This suddenly started yesterday 3/4/2020.

I have 3 email accounts on my android Outlook app. Outlook.com, Google, my ISP's. The problem only happens with my ISP (comcast.net, IMAP).

Till yesterday night, I can send/retrieve emails from the same server without an issue with Outlook app.

First I noticed Outlook requested to re-enter email password. But it failed. So I deleted account, then added. Failed. I even removed Outlook app and re-installed it. Failed. Google and Outlook account are just fine.

I didn't change anything from my side. I can access Comcast email from Web/Windows 10 mail and even from the same phone using Samsung standard email app.

What was changed and how to solve it? I can use Samsung standard email app but I like Outlook.

    Hi,

I have a few customers experiencing this problem.

It looks like with an App update Microsoft have removed "older" SSL and TLS protocols from the Outlook App, so It can't connect to MANY IMAP servers any more.

I've seen some emails on the MS partner network relating to SSL and TLS removal.

Short of updating the server SSL and TLS config there is nothing you can do with the Outlook app.

If you swap to gmail (yuk) or Blue Mail they will connect without issue.

If you want a paid app, that in my humble opinion is the best out there, then get Nine Email.

It just works and runs rings round the Outlook app.

Hope that helps with the frustrations

    Cheers

    Paul

This same issue has occurred to my Android device.  I know all the correct port settings and mail server information but selecting an IMAP account is not available and auto detection fails to work.

It's like the application is now missing POP3/IMAP options.

Up until this morning, all of the imap accounts in question were accessible via Outlook for Android.

Your request for us to contact support via the Outlook for Android isn't possible.  When I start outlook, it requests the password to the specific email account, forwards me to the account setup screen.  Even if you enter all of the settings correctly (I confirmed by adding the same account to my GMail app), it comes back with the error Check imap id & password.  The process starts all over.

If at ANY TIME  you select Cancel, Outlook shuts down.  There no opportunity to get to Settings as you can't even get a functional Outlook session going.

This is ongoing and I'm ready to bail out of ALL Office apps if MS can't deliver a solution to this issue.

Gmail can use an imap email account that Outlook can't.

I have the same problem. I wrote to Microsoft for help, but they're not willing to answer.

I recently purchased a Note 10+. On previous S7 Edge phone the Outlook application worked correctly. How surprised I am now when I can't configure Outlook accounts on my new smartphone. On the older model, the mails still works and receives messages, on the new one, error 701 still pops up, service not available, check login and password.

I'm already tired, Outlook has fitted me but now I will have to find another solution.

    I finaly got it.

You have to press the question mark (?) at right top to get the settings menu (strange since this is not windows user interface compliant), but there you can enter the server settings.

All SSL/TLS and working with TLS 1.2 and 1.3.

For the IMAP server you just enter the servername, no port !

For the SMTP server you enter the servername:587 or servername:465.  Also, WITH the port

Then it worked again for me !
