Outlook app draining battery

I rarely post stuff but I may have found a way around outlooks buggy updates that result in massive battery drain. My problem started with an update around May 2, 2018. Phone hot and outlook using 30 plus %. Would kill full battery on s7 edge in a few hours. That days before would easily last a whole day.

First, if your outlook is currently working for you, turn off autoupdate in play store for this app.

If like me you had it on and are now searching for the reason and fix for outlook killing your battery, here's what I did...revert to old build. Which cant easily do, but at the same time not difficult. Took me as long to make the decision to do it as it did to actually do it.

1. You'll need to make sure you can side load apps. Google around for your phone but theres a check box in your settings to load apps (apks) from unknown sources.

1b. Turn off autoupdate for outlook, thought of this below and added it here.

2. Backing up app data may save a little time later to restore email accounts, but easy to add accounts after reinstall outlook.
3. Uninstall Outlook from your phone. This was the tough decision, but must do it. Doesn't take long to readd accounts and go thru and adjust settings to liking later.
4. Download an old version of the app. I picked this one below because I know my app was working well on this date and this site was universally recommended. Click Download APK button a little ways down page:

5. Install that app/apk after download.
6. Open app and setup accounts as normally would. Will have to fix your settings to your liking...notifications, calendar, etc
7. Turnoff autoupdate in play store if you didn't already for outlook. Probably should do this before install old version so it doesn't try to update right away.

This has worked for me, at least for the last day. As to when to update tbe app in the future, that's a gamble but hopefully this method will always work if have to revert to old version.

Also this would probably work for other apps if you don't like them post update .

Update...still working fine 5/9, that 5/2 updated seems to be a problem

I have uninstalled and am trying Nine Email on a 14 day trial. So far it seems great. Everything that Outlook promises but doesn't deliver! It does cost a few dollars but that is fine. It also does more than the Outlook app so even if they do fix Outlook, I am afraid that I have gone.

Sorry Microsoft but that seems to be the story on many of your products over the years. I used to be a staunch supporter. Now,  slowly but surely you seem to be messing up and the only M stuff that I still use is because I have no choice.

Outlook cooked my S6 battery (caused it to buldge from overheating forcing replacement @$$$) and put me over my data plan limit for a penalty $$ before if finally figured it out with the help of this board posts (thank you all!).

What was a respected MS product is not worth any more frustration or expense. Did a lot of searching and testing to find a replacement called "Nine" E-Mail & Calendar." It is a paid app ($14.99) but proved to be worth it. You have access to Outlook Calendar, Contacts, Task List and Notes. Never going back to Outlook again.

I take it all back. Outlook has just updated itself and the saga has all started again! 

Only solution seems to be to stop using Outlook.

When I enabled App Permissions under security, Outlook started to prompt me in an infinite loop to allow it to access contacts and whenever I gave the permission it asked again, so it looks, that if contacts sync is enabled Outlook keeps spamming the contact list with sync. I disabled the contact sync on my outlook account and it seems that cpu usage is now lower, and also some guy from another forum said that this fixed his battery draining issue. I hope this will fix it, otherwise I'll stop using it as well. Shame on you Microsoft -.-

But it says that it will delete all contacts from the phone - Did it?
