Outlook 2016 - Save Multiple Attachments not saving to Network Drives

I recently updated a user from Office 2010 to Office 2016 through Office 365, soon after the update, the user informed me that they were no longer able to use the "Save Multiple Attachments" feature in Outlook to save multiple attachments to a Network location.

This method can save files to a Local drive without an issue, but will not save to a Mapped Network folder. I have tested this on two other computers, both in a different environment, with the same results.

Files can be saved individually, even through the Save Multiple Attachments dialogue, it is only when attempting to save 2 or more files simultaneously. I'm hoping someone knows of a solution to this issue as this user can receive upwards of 10+ attachments in a single email for a project that they need to make available to a project folder.

They did not have this issue prior to the upgrade. Any thoughts or recommendations would be appreciated.

Hi Angela,

No, right now the issue is still being investigated and there are two workarounds described in the following article, you can keep monitoring it to get the latest update about it.

  1. Save the documents to your own computer, and then copy them to the shared network drive.
  2. Save the documents one at a time to the shared network drive.

Hi All,

I totally understand the inconvenience this thing may cause you. Our related team are currently working on this issue. As workarounds, you can save the attachments one by one or revert to an earlier version. Your time and understanding will be highly appreciated.

Best Regards,

Iry

So it has been almost exactly four months since I first reported this issue. Today I have received numerous tickets regarding this problem, which tells me that the Semi-Annual/Deferred/whatever it is being called now update, that the majority of my users are on, has just rolled out and included the update from Version 1711 (Build 8730.2127), originally released December 12th that created this problem in the first place.

I would like to know the status of the fix for this, because, while I have already communicated to all of my users to head off any more reports of the problem, I would like to know whether I just need to instruct my users to plan to never use the "Save All Attachment" option again, or if there is a resolution in sight.

Iry Chen informed us on January 2nd, 2018, that the issue had been reported, yet no updates as to the status of a fix have been reported since then. Instead we are given band-aids and workarounds. On January 17th, a support article with workarounds was posted.

I worked in Software Development for 10 years before transitioning to IT Support, I understand bug-fixing is tedious and can take time. However four months is a ridiculous amount of time with no update as to a resolution. This tells me that we are more likely to see the "Save All Attachments" option dropped as a whole before we see a resolution to this problem. Every response since mid-January has been a copy/paste response of the workarounds.

I understand that the responses we are getting are from support, not the development team, but if I allowed a issue that affected hundreds of the users I was to support (nevermind the arguably millions that Microsoft has a responsibility towards), and all I offered were "workarounds" as opposed to a solution, I wouldn't expect to be employed much longer.

Though to be fair, when looking at the current known issues for Outlook listed here: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/fixes-or-workarounds-for-recent-issues-in-outlook-for-windows-ecf61305-f84f-4e13-bb73-95a214ac1230

I shouldn't be surprised at a lack of a resolution given the number of issues categorized as "Workaround". 17 workarounds as opposed to 11 Fixed issues.

    Hi Jonathon,

Email messages that includes attachments can all be saved in Outlook 2016. Based on the information that you've provided, we'd like to ask a few questions for us to better assist you:

    • What is the error message that you're getting when trying to save multiple attachments in Outlook 2016?
    • Is the device managed by a domain or an organization? Are you using an Office 365 for Business?
    • Is the Mapped Network folder a SharePoint?

If you're using an Office 365 for Business or the device is being managed by a domain or an organization, we suggest that you contact our Business Support team which specializes in this platform.

If you're using Office 365 Home, then we suggest that you perform an online repair to fix the issue. To do this, click here and follow the steps provided. Please note that when you get the prompt, How would you like to repair your Office Programs, select Online Repair.

We'll keep an eye out for your response.
