Turn Off Advanced Threat Protection in Outlook.com

First, I have an @msn.com email address. This is not an Office 365 business email address!

All the links in my email prefaced with the https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com.  Looking this up is part of the Exchange advanced threat protection package which they talk about in Office 365 for business.  How do I turn this off for my personal @msn.com email account.  It is actually causing more problems for me than it "protects" me so I need to turn this off.  How do I turn this off?  Again, this is happening on a personal account, not a business account.

    Finally, at least they give us option to opt-out that thing. From Outlook.com support:

    I am sorry for the inconvenience caused as the option to disable the feature was valid for a period of six months as informed by the engineering team. However the team has made some changes and I would like to inform you that the option to disable safe links has now been provided to the users.

    Please follow the steps listed below:

    1. Log into https://outlook.live.com/mail/inbox
    2. Settings(top right, cog icon) -> View All Outlook settings
    3. Under the section Premium , click on Security
    4. Below Advanced security, you would find a toggle button to Enable \ Disable ATP safe links.

    This is making the rather large assumption that these 'safelinks' do in fact offer useful protection. In view of the fact they make it practically impossible for the user to judge for themselves whether the site is legitimate, that is doubtful. No doubt it does make microsoft money however when they sell information about which links users are following to the highest bidder.

    It will add safety for some, reduce it for others, which is why there should be an easy opt out in the options.

    Hi.

    I realize that my post here will be somewhat unpopular ... while I find the ATP prefix a bit cumbersome, at times, so far I've not had any problems reaching the web sites I click to visit.

    The added protection is worth the slight delay, given how many new and different ways crop up every day when people are trying to inflict scams, Trojans, and other means to destroy our systems' files, software, etc.

    So, for now I will put up with this new method to protect my system.  It's added to my other packages, like Norton and Webroot.  Anything which protects my computer and the various areas which might be vulnerable is fine with me ... so long as they work and do not get in my way.

    And remember to back up your crucial files regularly. It's the best protection you can have, bar none.
