New Outlook.com (Hotmail) sign-in page : Autofill/Autocomplete not working?

Today a new style of sign-in page appeared for Outlook.com (Hotmail) — and autofill/autocomplete doesn't work for the e-mail address field!

I have several e-mail addresses, and until now I've only needed to enter the first letter to get the dropdown list. Now there's no dropdown list. I have to type the full e-mail address each time I sign in. As I often switch between accounts, and you have to sign out of one to be able to sign in to another, this loss of autofill is very frustrating and time-wasting.

It's not a browser-related problem: it happens in 3 different browsers (Chrome, Firefox, IE).

It's not computer-related: it happens on 3 different computers.

It happens only with the Outlook.com (Hotmail) sign-in. On other websites, autofill still works for e-mail address fields.

I can only assume that Microsoft's developers have blocked autofill/autocomplete on this new sign-in page. If this is a deliberate choice, then why? It's extremely annoying and time-wasting. If it's just a mistake, I hope that MS will correct it very quickly.

Has anyone else discovered the problem?  Does anyone have a solution or a workaround?

Thanks for the  links, Langware.   (Mystery solved!)

I'll try reporting the problem there too.  If we try enough different approaches, maybe someone might eventually take notice!

(The MS representatives here seem to have given up on this thread.)

    Cherche,

Were you able to report the problem (auto-complete not working in new Microsoft Account sign on page) using the steps I provided?

    Cherche,

I did put a link into my last post, but moderator  ZigZag3143 (Windows IT Pro MS -MVP)    removed it. It was a link to a Microsoft Account support page (not UserVoice).

ZigZag3143 ... if you are going to remove a link, please have the professionalism to say why you did that!!!!!

In any case ... here is the URL of the site (just copy and paste it into your browser):

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/getsupport?oaspworkflow=start\_1.0.0.0&wfname=capsub&productkey=wolmain&locale=en-us&selectedproduct=Windows+Live+ID&selectedissue=I+am+having+trouble+signing+in&Service%3a=General+Issue&wa=wsignin1.0&ccsid=635959073107306971

If the above link gets removed again, here is how you can find it ...

    1. Go to this page:  http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-live/id-support
    2. Click on "I am having trouble signing in"
    3. A page will open where you can describe the problem signing in (i.e., auto-complete not working).
    4. Click the Submit button.

You will get email with a case number and a link to the statu of your problem.

I was able to access this site, state my problem and did receive a case number, as you mentioned, Cherche.  Perhaps enough case numbers will bring some results!

    Hi,

Thanks for allowing us to know your concern. We understand that you want to easily access your account. Please be advised that Microsoft recently launched a new log in screen last March 24. The large picture to the left of the sign in box has been removed and the "Can’t access your account?" prompt is being changed to "Forgot my password" to help customers find the password reset flow a little better .

What we can suggest is that you may set your browser with AutoComplete settings so you won't have to enter your credentials over and over again. Make sure that when you sign in from

www.outlook.com, the box under the username and password which says "Keep me signed in" is also checked.

For more information regarding this, kindly refer to the article provided through the link below:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/fill-in-forms-remember-passwords-autocomplete#ie=ie-11

Should you have other concerns, please let us know.

    Thanks,

Beverly                       This is the response I received

    Dale,

I received the exact same initial response ... the person responding is working from a script.

I recommend that you reply to the email you received. Explain that their initial response did not address the problem. Explain the problem (auto-complete does not work when you type the first few characters of your ID into the new Microsoft Account sign in page). Verify, and then explain, that auto-complete does work on other sites you sign on to (such as netflix, gmail, facebook, or whatever other sites you logon to).

The above worked for me ... so you may want to give it a try.

    Hi Langware,

Sorry, I've been away for three days, with virtually no internet access.  Back now, but catching up on some more pressing things.  I'll try reporting it through that Microsoft Support page as soon as I have time.

In the meantime, I see you said "**The above worked for me ... so you may want to give it a try." Does that mean your autocomplete is now working? (and with the 'old' Outlook.com, rather than the new Outlook Mail? — not that that should make any difference.)  Did they do a fix just on your account?
