New Outlook.com (Hotmail) sign-in page : Autofill/Autocomplete not working?

Today a new style of sign-in page appeared for Outlook.com (Hotmail) — and autofill/autocomplete doesn't work for the e-mail address field!

I have several e-mail addresses, and until now I've only needed to enter the first letter to get the dropdown list. Now there's no dropdown list. I have to type the full e-mail address each time I sign in. As I often switch between accounts, and you have to sign out of one to be able to sign in to another, this loss of autofill is very frustrating and time-wasting.

It's not a browser-related problem: it happens in 3 different browsers (Chrome, Firefox, IE).

It's not computer-related: it happens on 3 different computers.

It happens only with the Outlook.com (Hotmail) sign-in. On other websites, autofill still works for e-mail address fields.

I can only assume that Microsoft's developers have blocked autofill/autocomplete on this new sign-in page. If this is a deliberate choice, then why? It's extremely annoying and time-wasting. If it's just a mistake, I hope that MS will correct it very quickly.

Has anyone else discovered the problem?  Does anyone have a solution or a workaround?

    ZigZag3143,

Just as I thought ... you would rather drive by and snipe, than offer any meaningful help ... such as explaining your specific thoughts as to why disabling auto-complete would be "valid".

I have coped .... I have written a user script that enables auto-complete whenever I open the sign on page.

Others many not feel comfortable doing the same, and thus they rely on Microsoft to either fix this problem or at least to explain why they have removed a feature (enabling autocomplete) that (prior to last March) used to exist in the old sign on page.

I have read many of your posts in these forums, and you provide a very valuable service here. However in the case of the auto-complete issue, your trust in Microsoft seems misplaced. The sign-on screen used to support auto-complete. In March, Microsoft disabled auto-complete in the sign on page with no explanation. You feel there are valid reasons for doing so ... but like Microsoft, you refuse to share your reasons. Pity. Many users here might benefit from your specific thoughts on the validity of disabling auto-complete in the sign on page.

    LW

Once upon a time I thought you deserved a response.  You have since then proved otherwise.

The new log on is not even on my my radar.

Up to you to cope or move on.

    I am done

There are valid reasons why they are changing ....

    ZigZag3143,

If there are (as you say) "valid" reasons why Microsoft has disabled auto-complete in the sign on page, then why do they refuse to share those "valid" reasons with their customers?? What have they got to fear (if the reasons are "valid")? Of course they do not "owe" us customers an explanation, but providing one would improve their customer service (that is, if they even care about customer service anymore).

You once stated that you have "higher up" contacts in Microsoft .... so why not ask those "higher up" contacts to have the courtesy of explaining the reasons why auto-complete is disabled in the sign on screen.

Even if Microsoft has plans to use the sign on screen to allow customers to sign-in to multiple applications/services ... why not allow auto-complete to work when filling in one's username when signing in to any of those applications/services???? How would allowing auto-complete in the sign on page impact ones ability to sign in to multiple applications??? Auto-complete merely lists those matching usernames that one has previously used when signing in. One can select one of the matching usernames, or type a different one. Also, one can easily set browser parameters to not remember ones password. Auto-complete only remembers usernames.

Instead of a drive-by ... why not be more helpful. If you think there is a valid reason for disabling auto-complete, then why not share it with us? Be specific. Explain exactly what problem is being solved by disabling auto-complete in the sign on page.

Forgive the drive by but it seems you are all spending far more time trying to get Microsoft to bend to your will than it would take to fill in the new log in page.

IF Microsoft decides to deal with it (and I doubt they will) they will when they are good and ready.  Microsoft does not "owe" you anything.  You are using their system and your choice is to deal with it or move on.

There are valid reasons why they are changing and just because you do not see them does not make them any less valid.

Is it really that onerous to have to fill in you UID & PW?

Seriously, deal with it or use something else.

    Hi,

We regret to inform you but as of now, you will not be able to get the autocomplete list on the sign in page. I would recommend you to please post this query on the link below as a feedback. This will help the concerned know the requirements and to make further changes.

What a waste of time - They can not fix something everyone else uses

I find this to be totally unacceptable, as I am sure every user does.  Why can Microsoft not take the advice of suggestions given, as in "langware" below? Why? MS owes us answers, since they cannot provide service.
