Hi! 

Originally this account was under a different name which I have changed. But it does not appear when people email me. How do I change this name???

  1. How do you access Outlook.com?
  2. Do you use Internet Explorer to access Outlook.com or any mail app?

3.When you say "it does not appear when people email me" are you facing issue from your end or the people who are sending emails to you?

Meanwhile, If you want to change the profile name for Outlook.com, please follow the steps below:

  1. Sign in to http://profile.live.com/ .
  2. Click on edit and save it.

Once you update the profile name correctly, Outlook.com will appear the correct name display.

Hi There,

I was having the same issue with my connected gmail account but I managed to solve it.

  1. Go to outlook.com
  2. Go to settings on the top right hand corner.
  3. Go to Accounts -> Connected Accounts
  4. Click on Gmail address and click edit, you can then change your display name there.

    People, why are you shooting yourself in the foot with this outlook service. I know it's a hassle to migrate, but you have to do it once. I switched to gmail and don't regret a single bit.

    And for those who don't like all that UI/JavaScript fluff that's being added to our email accounts, in gmail you can scroll all the way down and click "Basic HTML" that will make your account look like this -- no stupid slow UI, fly-out BS menus, no JavaScript to slow down your browsing, plain and simple. It will look like this every time you log in:

    (I had to blur some of my personal stuff.)

    So to switch, simply create an auto-forwarder in the outlook settings of all your mail from outlook to gmail or any other account. And you're done. Then change that email address with the main services you use, as well as send all your friends a notice of a change. Then wait for a few months. At that point you won't need that outlook account anymore.

    OK lastly, if you still want to stay with outlook, you have to remember that it takes days for those settings to stick. So change it, then wait for a few weeks and see if it works. I'm not kidding. There's evidently a ton of servers that they need to propagate your change to and it takes time. C'mon, guys, it's Microsoft. What do you want form them?

    I have the same problem and just tried this- does not work. The name I want is in the "profile" but when I send an email it's still the old name. Have business emails to send and this is driving me CRAZY.
