Changing display name in Outlook.com

Originally this account was under a different name which I have changed. But it does not appear when people email me. How do I change this name???

To get a better clarity about the issue, please provide the details below:

How do you access Outlook.com?
Do you use Internet Explorer to access Outlook.com or any mail app?

3.When you say "it does not appear when people email me" are you facing issue from your end or the people who are sending emails to you?

Meanwhile, If you want to change the profile name for Outlook.com, please follow the steps below:

Sign in to http://profile.live.com/ .
Click on edit and save it.

Once you update the profile name correctly, Outlook.com will appear the correct name display.

Hi There,

I was having the same issue with my connected gmail account but I managed to solve it.

Go to outlook.com
Go to settings on the top right hand corner.
Go to Accounts -> Connected Accounts
Click on Gmail address and click edit, you can then change your display name there.

Wow! This is REALLY RETARDED, Microsoft! I just wasted about an hour trying to change name on the friend's hotmail account. I didn't know that it was so difficult.

Also a side note. IE, or whatever you install in Win10, is no longer a dominant web browser (THANK GOD!) so you need to adjust and test it for what people use the most.

Here's what you need to do on Chrome:

You basically need to delete Hotmail Cookies, log out and log back in. So I'll show in pictures:

and then in a popup window:

This will reset all your TFA and other security but at least you'll be able to change the name on the email account.

PS. Just curious, why do people still use this Hotmail crap?

I have the exact same issue.

Top right corner in the outlook.live.com/owa still shows my old name, clicking it gives me the "Edit Profile" link which redirects me to profile.live.com which shows the correct new name. I've logged out and in a few times. Also tried changing skype details. I've waited a few hours.

Is there any Microsoft support people here to actually help?

I am using Outlook.com email in Google Chrome or Firefox.

I just want to change my display name. This should be dirt-simple. I can't do it.

I have tried everything here and more. I have clicked every item that could possibly make sense.

This is a failure on the most basic level.

Why is it impossible to change my display name? I can change it for....my account?..or is it skype?...what?...

does it want me to change it in the email account i used for recovery? it linked that account? why? it belongs to a relative. i dont have access to that. why did it link the accounts? it was just the recovery mail.

I just want to change my display name for Outlook emails! This is insane!
