Cannot login to Outlook due to error "Something went wrong.."

Original title: Outlook LIVE (outlook.com) "Something went wrong and we can't sign you in right now. Please try again later".

I have a custom domain running Outlook LIVE through outlook.com.  I've had an old passport account which has been with me for a long time but didn't used to have email associated with it.  I recently updated it to have email enabled, but I'm not able to login to outlook live with that account.

How can I get around the "Something went wrong and we can't sign you in right now. Please try again later" error, or determine what the problem is?  I waited about a month but I'm still having the same problem.  I would really like to get email onto this account since it's the account I have all of my other things (xbox, phone, win8) pointed to.

Thanks

Frankly, I've given up on this ever being corrected, but am watching the thread to see if MS ever responds.

These pages all seem to be a way to give dissatisfied buyers a place to vent, nothing more. Somebody gives a stock answer, but the solution doesn't work. So the company's solution is to ignore the problem, not address it.

Apparently another case of "Thanks for buying our software. Microsoft: where we care ... but not about you!"

I am using windows 7  -  When you click on the security tab in Internet Options, click security tab, look for and click on a green check mark - then look for button labeled sites. I had the same problem for a long time before I found this fix, the tab would flicker back and forth but never connected.

There are no sites listed in Trusted Sites - I would have provided a screen shot but unable to paste screenshot

Control Panel - click on Internet Options - go to Security tab - click on Trusted Sites-    Delete any programs that refer to email
