Cannot login to Outlook due to error "Something went wrong.."

Original title: Outlook LIVE (outlook.com) "Something went wrong and we can't sign you in right now. Please try again later".

I have a custom domain running Outlook LIVE through outlook.com.  I've had an old passport account which has been with me for a long time but didn't used to have email associated with it.  I recently updated it to have email enabled, but I'm not able to login to outlook live with that account.

How can I get around the "Something went wrong and we can't sign you in right now. Please try again later" error, or determine what the problem is?  I waited about a month but I'm still having the same problem.  I would really like to get email onto this account since it's the account I have all of my other things (xbox, phone, win8) pointed to.

Thanks

For the past week I too have had the same problem. I cannot get my emails.  I have very important messages I need to retrieve. It looks like no one really knows what has happened. I have tried all you have suggested and nothing is working, Please is there any update or fix for this. I NEED THOSE EMAILS!!!!!

Do not reply to the Hotmail email because it don't work.

I did a lot of reading and trying everything suggested - to no avail --  UNTIL - I found one post in another forum.  I tried using a different computer and I was able to get into the email account. The issue must be centered around a local security setting somewhere in the registry.

You can do a workaround by right clicking the IE icon and running in Administrator mode.

It works. It's not a sleek explanation, and is not a fix - but it does work.

    Good Luck all.

I just started having this issue as well.

After some quick looking around, I stumbled into this:

I am having the same problem, too, with one of my four computers -- a Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet running Windows 8.1. Issue has been going on for over a week. All the other computers (Lenovo desktop, Surface Pro, Surface Pro 2, ASUS eeeSlate, all running the same OS) can access just fine.

    Help!
